I have a AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5 GHz CPU and was looking to upgrade to a Intel Core i5-7500 LGA 1151 3,8 GHz. Is the .3 GHz upgrade worth the $200 (+ a mobo) Its also going from a Hexicore to Quadcore. If not suggest some! I was hoping to stay under $300 for the CPU

Hell yeah it's worth it!

It's NOT measured in mhz also! The i5 is MUCH FASTER than the 6300.

You'll also need new ram, keep that in mind.

Core clocks does not compare that easily. Also remind you that upgrading you will need to get ddr4 ram aswell. If you feel your gamig to feel slow then its time for a upgrade. It will also be nice to know the rest of your pc mainly the graphics card.

Would i need new ram if i got a mobo that can still work with DDR3, or does the core i5 only work with DDR4?

i haven't seen any 1151 boards with DDR3 and if they existed they are probably shit.

If it's not much more you should look into a 7600k with Z270 board.

Intel only officially support DDR3L (runs at 1.35V, lower than standard DDR3) and DDR4. Some board makers allow DDR3 with on board memory controllers, but I don't trust them. Not like RAM is that expensive.

i5 7500 is faster than the FX 6300, R5 1600 is faster than i5 7500 and is unlocked. There isn't a reason to go with i5's anymore unless you already have the board and had something like a dual core i3 or Pentium you're upgrading from.

 Basically.

If you're starting with a fresh build mid 2017, Ryzen R5 is better choice in the $200 range and in the $300 range it really depends if you want higher IPC or more of a balanced chip with more cores.

@DevilsHand676

Well...my Asrock Taichi is a bit on the more expensive side. For the chipset below mine, the MSI Tomahawk is a popular board that is inexpensive.

Yes the tomahawk is popular at Ryzen's first moments, but how about the Fatal1ty?

alright done some looking and I think I found a good parts list. tell me what you think:

-AMD Ryzen 5 1600X https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-1600X-Processor-YD160XBCAEWOF/dp/B06XKWT7GD/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498287550&sr=8-2&keywords=R5+1600

-MSI B350 TOMAHAWK https://www.amazon.com/MSI-B350-TOMAHAWK-Gaming-Motherboard/dp/B06WVFFXXL/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1498287876&sr=1-8&keywords=am4+motherboard

-Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-3000MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0143UM4TC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1498287341&sr=1-1&keywords=ddr4%2Bram&th=1

My PSU is 600 Watt so that should do well for this I think

CPU- Ryzen 9 3900x

The 1600x uses 88.2 watts at full load, where as the 7700k uses 114.3 watts.  So the Intel CPU consumes about 30% more power, but at 3:50 he says the Intel CPU is more efficient.  Just wanted to correct this misinformation.
