oh jesus $30 for 100mhz xD cant nearly all 7700k's do 5ghz?

Nope, about one third of 7700k doesn't do 5.0Ghz stable without overheating/throttling. The one you can buy for 30$ extra means it will do a 1 hour stress test at 5.0Ghz without thermal throttling. So basically you pay a little extra for a chip that'll run cooler than about 33% of the chips.

But technically you can just get better cooling and it will not overheat and throttle.

I think he's already using pretty high-end cooling in his stress tests, and even with that over a third of tested chips enter the throttling temperatures. It all comes down to whether you're willing to pay a little bit more for a guarantee that your chip will run cooler than other chips. I think that's a nice investment, it means you can enjoy more quiet because the fans don't need to run as fast to keep the temperatures under control.

that site is actually ridiculous, $110 for 200mhz on an i5 which is beaten by a ryzen 1600 which is much cheaper.

You mean the 7600k? It might lose to 1600 in heavy workloads that favor more cores, but in gaming you will get better framerate with higher-clocked 4c 7600k.

the problem here is although it might overclock better with less temps, its still a much wiser decision to pay $20 for the delid kit, do it yourself and in the process lose 15-20c in temps which is much more compared to what a chip with better silicone can do with stock paste.

1600 overclocked still has better minimums, which is more important imo

Most people reach 5GHz with high end air cooling or an AIO, so you pretty much get confirmed 5GHz+ with a custom loop or phase change.

I don't think buying binned CPUs is worth it at all unless you get a really high binned one.

If you get a lower bin, such as a 100MHz one, you're pretty much paying for a CPU that's bad, because in order to find the good bins they need to go through all the CPUs and sell the bad ones as a lower bin.

You would probably have a much better chance of getting a good overclocker by just buying a normal CPU from a store.

Kinda

mostly equal, with the 7600K slightly edging out the 1600

if you spend the extra money on a 5.1 or 5.2Ghz 7600K, it's a pretty dumb move, since you could've just picked up a 7700K, which crushes this thing.
