Help with graphics card for Photoshop

I've been working on a Ryzen 1600 PC for graphic design work, and playing some Overwatch, but with the rise in gpu prices, would an Asus RX580 4GB be enough or should I shoot for an 8GB eventually, or a 1060.

Just get a 1060 6GB, 1070, or wait and get an RX580/480 when the craze dies down.

RAM first. 4GB on windows 10 is so bad.

AMD RX 550 will be more than enough for Photoshop, not much else.

Good luck finding a 580. Unless you have a Freesync monitor, you should just grab a 1060 6GB. The VRAM size depends entirely on the sizes of your projects. A lot of images I work with end up well over 10,000px wide so get fairly big with a few hundred layers.

No that's the VRAM i'm pretty sure. But, OP, for God's sake get more than 4GB of system RAM :P

Whatever graphics will be fine on Photoshop. Just get more then 4GB of ram. 4GB is nothing these days.

How much would you be paying for the 580

 

Also, if photoshop is a main focus, you might want to consider Intel instead as photoshop is quite single threaded

I saw ASUS rx580 and thought laptop for some reason... Yes I was talking system ram. I just saw a guy with 4GB of system RAM wanting a new GPU for Photoshop. I thought to myself "another one? wow".

You don't need much for Photoshop. I'd get something along the lines of a 750 Ti. 

 

Edit: Getting a 580 4GB would last you longer in gaming, but Vega is around the corner if you're willing to wait.

I mean I have 4GB on my laptop, but that's running an Atom so it has plenty of other issues (Photoshop still works though!).

I actually used one in a job I used to have, which was purely Photoshop. It only really accelerates some of the tools and the smooth scrolling/zoom refresh levels. Most of the main tools, and Photoshop itself, don't use it anyway.

Photoshop barely has any functions for the GPU which is why I'm recommending something low-powered that can still accelerate well enough. VRAM isn't much of an issue either even when using Lightroom.

I'd still suggest going higher though, it doesn't cost much extra and is good for higher resolutions and general future proofing.

I don't :P It's just for small things on the go. It actually does alright, so long as I work off a scratch disk. It's mainly for web browsing, emails and all that kinda light stuff.

Yep that's what my old gaming laptop is for. It does have 8GB though. I haven't had a PC with 4GB since Windows XP.
