Best GPU replacement for gaming performance bump?

i5 4670k at 3,8ghz, currently paired with a GTX 770, it isn't providing sufficient power for triple A at 1920x1080p60hz.

 

What would be the best pick with it? a second hand GTX 980, maybe the GTX 1060?

 

Wish we could replace the processor for an i7 4790k and a GTX 980ti but that got off budget a bit and it might be too much for 1080p60hz any ways... So the idea here is throw a SSD to speed up things (OS still on HDD urgh) and new graphics card, his location is USA, Tennessee.

OS migration is a huge pain in the ass when it's already on a hardrive with other shit that won't all fit on the SSD..... GTX 1060 is a decent bet all the alternatives are taken up by etherium mining so you won't get them for good prices. the ppl will tell you to wait a few weeks but we don't know it will actually go back to normal any time soon.

I'd defo look for a 980. They run about $200 on CL (I'm about an hour from Nashville). I got a 980 Ti for $300, but I'm assuming that's over budget. And defo overkill for 1080p 60Hz, since the guy I got it from ran it at 4K after he tweaked some settings.

I'd go with a 1060 6GB or a used [980 or] 980 Ti.

I don't think it will. You might get some FPS drops, but if you set V-Sync to fast, it should stabilise a bit.

It depends on the games, but my 2500K played just fine with my overclocked 980 Ti. I have a 2700K now, but still runs just fine. I'm unsure of stock clocks though.

 

I think it should be fine. Try to get one for below $300 though.

Ah, the 2700K was a later sku. It's pretty much the same with the 2600K but it has a higher base clock / boost clock.

In this case, if your monitor is 60Hz, your monitor is the bottleneck. Go for a 980.

We'll go with the 980ti, the desire really is to max as much as possible those graphical settings on quite demanding games such as The Witcher 3 so even if it's 60hz it is justifiable besides for around 300~ dollars it's hard not to consider it worth.

 

My concern was mainly if the CPU was enough but turns out it seems to be.

You should have no trouble getting a 4670K to give you >100Hz in nearly any game (assuming that's it's as powerful as a base clock 4690K) and if you're going for graphics, more power is better, to a point.

I feel terrible because I kind of snapped with a new gpu (I had a firepro V7900 before...roughly a GTX 560), because I couldn't play this PS4 port game sold on steam I bought (Was getting 14-20fps)....and so I'm using my 980 Ti to play 1080p60...and it runs very low GPU usage now. I don't even own any actual hard to run games (Mostly content creator / 3D modeling).

 

The 980 Ti will be a pretty good upgrade, just try your best to keep it cool. It does run fairly hot.

 

I know my brother with a 1060 6GB can't get 60fps with everything maxed at 1080p for witcher 3 (Stock clocks on 1060 though). My 980 Ti could do it though. It's also a beast at rendering in vray though.
