iMac Pro Announced Features

Sooooo, you probably have heard of Apple announcing the "iMac Pro" (If you watch the WAN Show you will definetly).

The Features sound pretty darn cool (I will ignore the price), with up to 18 Cores, 128GB Ram, 4TB of Storage at 3GB/s and more stuff.

 

The Thing is, I am not sure how Apple will do some of the stuff and would like to know the Community's oppinion.

For Example the Storage: What do you think? Two M.2s in Raid 0?

 

Or the GODDAMN MONITOR SUPPORT: Native 5K Screen PLUS Two additional ones over Thunderbolt 3!? That's almost 44 MILLION Pixels! Will Vega be that powerful to support it on one GPU at decent FPS? Or will a, for example, SLI Setup with 1080Ti's be enough (then we could predict Vega performance, right? Right?)?

Yes

 

Also Apple is rumored to be working on Displays with their own GPUs to drive them without impacting the performance of the iMac or MacBook that would be using it. 

 

Also Apple is adding support for external GPUs so there will be a work around if issues to arise.

Well you have to think of who they market to. The CPU model number is useless to most people. Sure you can argue that the Pros might want to know what CPU it is, but a little logical deduction and you can see intel only has a few Kaby lake Xeons.

Buggin' me as well, Buddy. Either a Xeon (Wow, there are like threr or more 18 Core Xeons in Intels lineup) or the rumoured X299 Model.

Your not gaming, so the extra pixels won't slow it down much if there just displaying menu's or video, these are designed to be used for compute.

Custom ssd and no raid, raid is just a pain and apple has never done it stock.

that xeon is on the exact same socket as the x299 chips and will use the same die, just different marketing and ecc support

all the amd fx 43x 63x 83x and some opterons are the same die, same with all ryzen 7 and 5.

 

Look at cars, There are many that use the same frame and block, just have a nicer inside and sell for 10k more.

Yeah, its not great for mass user deployment out of the box. Its not worth it either with the SSDs Apple has been using.

yup, either Apple just beat Physics or this has poor thermal performance like the new MacBook "Pro" atrocious thermal design.

Didn't realize you were a computer hardware engineer (or had at the very least worked on the iMac Pro Design team) and had tested the thermals of this machine personally. 

 

Oh wait, nobody who doesn't work for Apple has done that. 

 

Make your claims when you have data to back them up, not before.
