Always keeping in mind the state of hardware performance is given and can never be upgraded with a console.

But comparing prices for a system that meets the same performance of the xboxonex, the console wins.

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

Media System "Vio": Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5700X, 64 GB Ram DDR4 3200 Mushkin, 1 275 GB Crucial MX SSD, 1 tb Crucial MX500 SSD. IBM 5015 Megaraid, 4 Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD in raid 5, 4 WD RED 4 tb in another Raid 5, Gainward Phoenix GTX 1060

(Abit Fatal1ty FP9 IN SLI, C2Duo E8400, 6 GB Ram DDR2 800, far too less diskspace, Gainward Phantom 560 GTX broken need fixing)

Nostalgia: Amiga 1200, Tower Build, CPU/FPU/MMU 68EC020, 68030, 68882 @50 Mhz, 10 MByte ram (2 MB Chip, 8 MB Fast), Fast SCSI II, 2 CDRoms, 2 1 GB SCSI II IBM Harddrives, 512 MB Quantum Lightning HDD, self soldered Sync changer to attach VGA displays, WLAN

And if you're going to compare a PC to a game console, you need to look at it from an entire system perspective, not a single use case perspective. Like for example, the Xbox One X can play UHD Blu-Rays. The only PC software that can do this is basically Cyberlink's PowerDVD 17 that normally runs for $90 or so. And that's before trying to find a UHD Blu-Ray drive for the PC (regular Blu-Ray drives cannot read UHD Blu-Rays).

So when taken as a whole, you will not find a PC that will do as good, if not better, than the XB1X at its asking price.

No, but at the same time you're comparing two different things. If your sole use is gaming, then an Xbox is perhaps a better choice, if it has all the games you want to play. If you need to do anything else, it's better to get a PC.

Even if you went the system builder route to avoid the cost of the OS, I couldn't find any that shipped with UHD Blu Ray drives.

And the only one on the market is $130: https://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=UHD+Blu+Ray+Drive&N=-1&isNodeId=1

Probably true, though I think it's very telling that I only heard Microsoft mention framerate when talking about Forza, and then never again. My bet would be that this ends up being like the Xbox One: with just a few exceptions, most 'triple-A' games end up targeting 30 FPS, and possibly not always running that well.

This comparison seems… off to me. It's probably true that if all you're considering are theoretical performance metrics, the Xbox probably is quite a good value against a similar PC. But just the ability to make your own decisions about performance vs. visuals completely throws it off. You're probably not trying to play games at 4K on a $500–600 PC anyway. You're going to aim for 1080p with that PC, and get a completely different and more consistent experience. You've also got the option to use a different input method on PC, which [at least to me] is a deal-breaker.

The movie industry is probably hoping one of these game consoles are going to become the next PS2 in driving the market. But alas, they also seemed to fail to realize Netflix is so much more convenient.

Then again you still need a UHD TV to actually consume the content. At least DVDs worked on regular TVs.

Yeah, I think the rest will be somewhere around 40. Still not bad to be completely honest. Anyone who figured it'd be 60fps steady in all titles is delirious, and anyone laughing at it should take a look at their own systems, which likely cost several hundred more than the Xbox does and perform similarly.

I think they're targeted at different markets, and that's something this forum time and time again fails to realize. There will always be people who just simply prefer to play on a console. I know I do from time to time. I have a few friends who play a few games on there, and I'd buy a console to play with them. Really, at $500 I'd only need to play 50 hours to really feel I'd gotten my moneys worth. I easily play 10x that. A dollar an hour? A bargain.

Actually I would argue having a disk is quicker and easier. Pop in a disk, go. Digital download you'll have to wait, deal with connection issues, or have inferior quality because it's been compressed to hell to save bandwidth. And also you cannot exclude a feature from your PC build just because you're not going to use it on the system you're comparing it to, otherwise that's not a fair comparison of systems.

Otherwise I could cherry pick things out as well.

To discuss the OP's question, we have to consider the two as if we consider equally fit for purpose.

For what it's worth, I am aware of the irony that my last post was all about my arbitrary personal reasons for refusing to consider a console equally fit for purpose to a PC. Before anyone says anything, good point. :P

That's more pointed at the people who say consoles are pointless. Read my first post before taking something else out of context.
