It's more than just a hunk of metal, it has micro-channels on the inside that flow in a specific way.

Unlike with air cooling, there is no suction on the fluid, only pressure.

Since the block isn't symmetrical it's designed to perform best with fluid pressure coming in through a specific port.

It will work at cooling but lessen performance by a good margin, I've seen a case where flow was backwards and it caused a 10C or so in difference when swapped back around.

The instructions clearly state which is which and why. Even little diagrams to help, they donthat with all of their products.
