MX Blues or Reds?

Go to solution Solved by Sakkura,

I like my keyboard with Reds, but I've never heard of durability issues with the Blues, and you should IMO go for the switches you like.

I'm going to be buying a K95 in a week or so, but I'm debating if I should go for blue or red switches. I absolutely adore the blue switches and their sound, but I here if they get dusty it can cause the switch to fail. I'm really leaning blue team but I'd like the keyboard to last for 4-5 years if I'm going to be paying that much for it. I don't really like a whole lot of anything about reds but I'd rather those if it means a longer lasting keyboard.

Okay blues it is. I read a post on here 2 days ago talking about his problems with blue switches and it kind of scared me. I think he just wasn't taking good care of his gear. Thanks for your reply!

Ehhh I don't know if those are for me, I've looked into all of the different kinds.

i have both browns and blues, browns arent bad but they dont offer close to the tactile feedback of the blue switches, they are an ok compromise but kind of meh over all

Anyway i am sure cherry switches has a good durability just avoid razer switches, no offense but my xian ling blue knock off last longer than razer switches by gatheron although some keys are starting to turn into brown cause it loses the clickyness but there's no double tap issues like razer.

And they are very very fucking loud in the first 2 days, like annoyingly loud

Q: How many prolog programmers does it take to change a lightbulb?

No sadly, I live in the middle of nowhere. The best we have is a Best Buy, but they only sell TVs and cellphones because of our low population. So yeah, being a PC gamer here sucks.

I've had nearly a dozen mechanical keyboards since 2013 or so: two had Cherry MX Blue (Logitech G710 and Das Keyboard Professional) and a third had Outemu Blue switches (Monoprice Select Series). The oldest of them is the Das Keyboard Professional, which I purchased around 2013 and have since gifted to my sister (also a PC gamer), and it's showing no sign of slowing down.

I've had membrane (Logitech G15) and scissor switch (Logitech K740) keyboards fail before the mechanical keyboard craze, but I've yet to have even a single mechanical switch fail on any of my keyboards, so they do indeed seem more durable than any other switch type I've used in the past.

That said, I personally use Cherry MX Red switches (Corsair K65 RGB) on my gaming PC at home. Then my work PC has a K70 (non-RGB) with Cherry MX Browns, and my wife's PC has a K70 RGB with Brown switches as well. We decided to eliminate Cherry MX Blues from our household because they're a bit noisy and we don't want to wake up our newborn. :D

Eh, corsair is same trash as razer and logitech.

Nonstandart bottom row, thin keycaps, which means you are stuck with shitty keycaps.

Also k95 is really big. Do you really need numpad? That isn't good for your shoulders and wrists. You don't want to have RSI. Also it is overpriced as fuck.

Buy a cooler master masterkeys pro m or l, ducky one tkl, or rantopad MXX and a separate numpad to place on left side for ergonomics if you need it.

Maybe go even smaller and get a 60% keyboard like a pok3r or anne pro.

For switches, all will last equal. Buy a switch tester from Amazon or eBay, to decide which you like best before you drop +70 dollars on a keyboard.

Coming from keyboard enthusiast, who has built some custom keyboard, and designed his own.

Having used a Logitech G710 and Black Widow Ulitmate Stealth (orange switches)... I far and away prefer the flush brushed metal frame design on the Corsair K-series over both. Easy to clean, very durable, doesn't attact finger prints, and aesthetically pleasing.

MX makes very good quality switches so I doubt theyll break easily, but just clean the keyboard every now and then and even if it breaks you can just re-oil, wash (make sure its completely dry or else itll short circuit), or take apart your keyboard to fix it and even then I highly doubt youd need to do those things.

Thats not my experience (but it cost alot!), I have had this keyboard since they came out (I think just over a year ago now?) and smash it for about 30 hours a week FPS gaming (Squad). it never missed a beat yet.

The MX Speed switches are certainly better than the cherry reds on my previous board a Cooler Master Qucik Fire TK which I had for 2 years, it was a danish layout and second hand. That was also a great board, built like a brick.

Don't go by what you read online. If you're going to spend that kind of money on a keyboard, buy a switch tester first and see which switch you prefer. Make sure you spend a lot of time pressing the switch, as the sound can get on your nerves.

When I was looking into mechanical keyboards, I read and read, posted, etc. I came to the conclusion Blues were best.

Bought a keyboard with Blues. Hated it. Way too loud, drove me insane.

Went over to a friends and tried his keyboard that had Browns. Hated it. Feels like mush.

Bought a keyboard with Reds, much, much better. Interestingly this is the one I thought I'd like the least. Installed travel reduction o rings, and was satisfied.
