GTX 1070 with AMD FX-8320

@Cubianer With your current system I doubt you would see a tangible difference in performance between your 270 and a GTX 1070 in any of the 3 games that you listed. As others have mentioned you could go with a 1060 or 960 instead, but I would just as soon stick with the 270. If I were faced with the same decision I would wait and build a new system

 

That being said, a 1070 will work in your system. A friend of mine runs a 1080 FE w/ their FX-8350. They only ever play Overwatch and their FPS hovers around 100 at 1440p (I don't know all of their graphics settings). It definitely isn't cost:performance optimal, but it does work.

I want to upgrade my current GPU to a GTX 1070 (Gainward Phoenix GLH) and would like to know if it will work fine with my AMD FX-8320?

My Rig:

GPU: ASUS R9 270X DirectCU II 4GB

CPU: AMD FX-8320 AM3+ 3.5GHz

Motherboard: ASUS M5A99X EVO R2 AM3+, AMD 990X, ATX

RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance 8GB, DDR3-1600, DIMM 240

SSD: Samsung 850 Pro (128GB) (going to upgrade to a 500GB SSD)

PSU: Club 3D CSP-D850CB 850W

Monitors: 2x ASUS VS247HR 24", 1920x1080

OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit

 

I use my PC for gaming, mainly Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege and PUBG.

I'm also planning to get the htc vive in the future, will my GPU be good enought for that or do I have to upgrade it?

Anything above the GTX 960 / R9 380 will bottleneck on the FX platform. If you upgrade to the 1070, your frame rates may improve, or they may stay the same. Hard to tell without seeing the CPU's performance in those titles.

I have a 3GB 1060 on a overclocked FX-8120 and I would not go higher than my card. You will get high max and avg FPS but you will see a lot of random stuttering and lag, which is a bit of a signature of the FX series.

It will work fine. Although the CPU needs an upgrade to allow the GPU to show all it has to offer, it will surely work with an FX 8320

You need a new CPU, an FX 8320 will bottleneck it quite hard

 

Here is Overwatch paired with 1080. You can see it loses around 90-100fps average while pairing with FX 8370 (very close to a 8320)

Lies! Any game that uses 1-cpu thread will bottleneck and modern game will run better than a sandy bridge i5 but still I suggest a 580/1060 unless it is OCed! :)

That old ass CPU will hold back a GTX 1070 all the way to the moon and back in every games even if you overclock it balls to the walls...unless you aim for 4K gaming at 30FPS in which case it'll be a good match.

the i5-2500K even at stock clocks flatout DESTROY the old ass AMD fx in EVERY games...old or new...watch this video this was done by the king of benchmarking and was released about a month ago...so fresh games, fresh everything, enjoy :)

Anyways, BF1 is a modern recent game that uses all the threads and the engine for it was developped and optimized for AMD FX chips back when BF3 first launched and the AMD trailed anything intel from 2010 and up in BF3/BF4/Hardline/battlefront/BF1 and EVERY other games...watchdogs 2 also uses all the threads...find me where it says it's faster than an intel quad-core now...GO!
