Are CHIEFTEC power supplies any good?

Looking for a good 500W power supply for a budget build. After looking in the local shops, CHIEFTEC power supplies seem to be the most popular.

I would greatly appreciate it if you shared your opinion on these power supplies, specifically:

CHIEFTEC GPE-500S

CHIEFTEC GPS-500A8 Smart Series

If you have better suggestions, please feel free to share them. As a newbie in building PCs it would most certainly come in handy.

Thank you in advance!

Yes there is. Actually it surprises me how little information on the internet there is about this brand seeing how popular they are in the eastern part of the Europe.

Grey CXM, EVGA B3 or SeaSonic M12II would probably be better. Never heard of Chieftec.

Thanks to all of you for the information. Seeing that CHIEFTEC is generally advised against on the internet, I shall look into better known brands, I guess.

I think about 60-65$, as mentioned I am building a budget build. But if I can't find anything suitable in this price range, I will probably have to sacrifice another 10-15$

The EVGA was my first option. The only problem is that I can't get it in the local shops so I will have to order it from amazon or ebay, which ends up pretty pricey. But I guess for the sake of not blowing up my build, it is more than worth it.

Chieftec power supplies are manufactured by various of different of OEMs with varying degree of quality. How good they are would depend on which model you are talking about.

Either way, the GPS-500A8 and GPE-500S are low-end group-regulated designs. I would take a pass on them. Since you are looking at those 230V only options, you aren't from the NA, do your local shop have a website we can go off of?

The other options, besides Chieftec, are as follows:
ANTEC VP500P

DEEPCOOL DA500

COOLER MASTER B700 V2

XILENCE XP500R6

GAMEMAX GM-600

ZALMAN ZM600-TX

At least those are more common brands.

I am afraid that only one website is translated in English:

Either way, here's the second one:

I don't recommend the NZXT Hale82 v2. It's a rather low-end unit - Sirtec Element Smart platform internally.

I would recommend the Chieftec A90 GDP-650C. https://nanoteh.md/en/97

It's a CWT build unit based on the GLN platform like the Cooler Master GM / GX Storm Edition. It's based on a more modern DC-DC design and will perform electrically better than the Hale82v2.

Actually, upon further investigation with my friend, I found out that he has relatives in Romania, from where I can actually order brand PSUs for little to no shipping costs.

So I settled for Seasonic M12II Bronze EVO Edition 620W.

As I understand, it's an excellent PSU. A bit overkill for my build, but cheap as well.

The M12II-B 620 Evo is based on an old design, but it's a good budget unit.  Personally, I'd go with the Chieftec A90 due to DC-DC and a higher efficiency; however, it does offer less warranty, semi-modularity, and the customer support may not be as good as the Seasonic. If you want a recommendation from a Romanian site, it would be helpful if you can provide a link to it, but the M12II-B Evo would be fine choice.

There's the Seasonic AT / AM based Hale82, Sirtec Element Smart based Hale82v2, and a FSP EPN based Hale82 N. The one you linked to is the Sirtec unit which is nowhere as good as the Seasonic build Hale82.
