Hi all,

I'm a student going to college this year and need help picking out a laptop.

I'm currently running a MacBook Pro 13-inch retina (2015 model) and am looking at 2 laptops as choices

- XPS 15

i7-7700 HQ, GTX 1050, 512gb storage, 16gb ram

-Aero 15

i7-7700 HQ, GTX 1060, 512gb storage, 16gb ram

I normally play games such as Overwatch, Dishonoured, Skyrim (bootcamp) and stuff (medium to heavy on GPU)

I like the design, keybaord and trackpad of the XPS 15 (coming from Mac) but the performance of the Aero 15 is undeniably tempting.

Just wanted some opinion on both laptops (cooling, display...)

Thank you :)

But stronger and better and has good thermal solution.

I'd say go with the Aero. The XPS is around ~$100 more expensive, and the only benefit of it is the 0.3kg less it weighs. Aero has much better graphics, and is cheaper. GPU might run a little hot, but they wouldn't mess around with cooling when they cram a 1060 into a laptop, so don't worry too much about it. All other specs are pretty much identical.

or is there a better option than these 2 around the same price range and specs?

Well you're looking for a thin and light that performs well with a long battery life.

There's literally 3.5

Zenbook Pro (the new one)

XPS15

Aero 15

Aero 14 (this one is not so good)

how is the aero 14 not so good, i was actually thinking about that one cuz of the "normal" keyboard and trackpad placement with relatively the same performance as the aero 15, I was just worried about cooling issues with the 14

but i'm thinking with just gaming, light video editing, streaming it wont be as big of an issue

no tb3

bezels (making the aero 14 almost the same size as the 15)

poor thermal management (it's ALOT worse than the 15)

worse panel (14in panels suck. they all suck. there is currently 1 good 14in panel used and it's the Razer 4k one).

etc.

oh that's true... what about the Razer blade then? I was looking at that compared to the alienware 13 and the MSI GS63VR, everyone says the MSI and Razer Blade run really hot. Though my usage is not particularly demanding

The razer blade is a terrible machine due to poor thermal design, lack of quality control, and power issues out the ass. The aero 15 will be your best choice.

No. Refer to links below both objective testing results and subjective experiences with any of Razer's current line of products. Also refer to these recent threads on people asking regarding Razer laptops to see other communitiy members opinions beyond my own.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm probably going to go with the Alienware 13... it has the best cooling and the best screen out of the 3 and I don't mind the extra weight or bulk. The graphics amp for Alienware is also better so is upgradability so this one seems to be the best choice.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thread!
