So building a new system and thinking about going threadripper if the 16 core part comes in under $1500k us and motherboard under $500. Ok, so I see additional power connects on the x399 motherboards, is this going to cause me to have to get a special power supply? I looks like two additional 8 pins. I was looking at the Seasonic Prime 750 as my power needs are the 16 core maybe 14 core Threadripper board, 2 1080's (non sli as this is a workstation) 3 raided Nvme m.2's with out of machine externally powered back up and raid, will this for me or will I be out of 8 pins? Does anyone know if they are standard 8 pins or proprietary ones for x399 boards?

They will be standard ATX, and IIRC there were just 2 8 pins,, but I only glanced anyway so could be wrong. The EVGA 850p PSU I have has 2 8 pin CPU plugs and cables, and I think there are a few of them now that have this type of spec. The TDP for threadripper was around 165, so power wise unless hugely overclocked wouldn't need more than 2 8 pin connectors for sure.

They look like standard 8 pin CPU connectors.

The EVGA Supernova series has 2 CPU pin

There are two 8-pins since the socket basically appears to be a dual CPU socket. The Prime 750 should have all you need.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
