Graphics card died, need a new one

Sack

So my GeForce 780 died last night, the victim of the Doom demo, now I need a new one, how does the 1070 compare to the 780? I've also seen refurbished 980s on eBay, but I'm not sure how smart it is to buy a used one, refurbished or not.

The 1070 is great, it can run everything on ultra atm. It can even run 4k with average fps. Personally i would go for the 1070 rather than the 980.

Let's put it like this. A 780 is similar to a 970, which is about 1060 3gb level. Second hand 980s are fine as long as it looks ok because they aren't that old, though I would recommend 980Ti because there are plenty of them in the second hand market usually at a good price. If you want a brand new card, then the 1070 is the best option with more performance but not as much premium on the price.

A GTX 780 is between a GTX 960 and a GTX 970

A GTX 980 Ti is at the same level with a GTX 1070

You should see a pretty big performance increase if your CPU is not holding back
