RX 460 or GTX 970?

I am looking into a graphics card for around $130 but i am deciding between a used 970 or 980 or new rx 460.

Which is better to get because they are around the same price.

if you can find a 980 at a good price otherwise go for the 970.

oh damn, man I remember my 970 (Upgraded from it to the 980) handling games a bit better, but was prob due the the RX470 been Sapphire Platinum edition and the 970 been the MSI Gaming with a overclock. 

 

Hit me the other day how badly the 1060+70 just make my 980 so stupidly weak :( don't think i'll ever buy a top tier card again.

Go with 970, it is a great gpu, a legend in its class actually :)

The xx70/xx80 cards are fine, but I'd always wait for the potential pricedrops first if there's a TI in that series aswell. Just because it's equal to mainstream cards next generation doesn't make it any worse.

Ehh, this gen was more of the exception rather than the rule. Usually between archs you get like x80 -> x70 in terms of performance, but this gen we also had a die shrink which made a big difference, so it was more like x80 -> x60

That is true, At least one good thing happened. It destroyed prices of second hand 900 series cards. So can SLI my 980's way cheaper than even a used 1070. Yeah SLi ain't perfect but at the Price/Performance it wins. not by much but it still wins :)

Go for GTX 970 especially that price, but some cards wouldn't have some ports (DisplayPort, etc)

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).
