I have this dream of making a very powerful mATX PC, with a 8-10c CPU and a top of the line GPU.

The smaller the PSU is the better.

So what are the specs of such a PC going to be?

2x normal SATA SSD's

1x NVMe SSD

1x HDD

3x-4 120mm fans

2x 92mm fans (NF-A9x14)

1x 240mm AIO

1x 1955 or r7 1700 (depends on motherboards)

32gb of ram

1x 1080ti or whatever AMD will have

This will be in a Modded Styx with front intake (hence 2x 92mm), the smaller the PSU is the better it will all fit together. I was personally thinking a silverstone ST85F-PT, my current PC has a AX860i, but sadly it is a bit too long to fit in the Styx case unless I get a short GPU and by short I mean 280mm or less.

I don't think that is going to have enough power for this system if I OC my CPU and GPU. I am going to put my system under close to 100% load from time to time with 3D modeling.

EVGA G3 750 will come in a SFF format soon, id go for that

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

The Test

For our review of the GTX 1080 Ti, we’re using NVIDIA’s 378.78 driver.

Well, when I use those PSU calculators they say the system is going to use about 620-630w under full load.

I don't know the full setup of that test, I am going to run quite a few fans and quite a few hard drives, which are going to draw more power.

I can see that a 4960x draws about 210w under load and I expect the 1955 to do the same (just with 10c instead of 6c :D)

that seems nice, really nice. Do we know any info about the size?

well its probably SFX for the formfactor but it looked a bit too long for that in the video i saw. dont think we have actiual numbers yet but i think release date is pretty soon

NEVER EVER use PSU calculator, they overrestimate things by a lot

Hard Drive shouldn't consume that more power, a decent 600w is ffine

New G3 is a SFF size (small form factor)

Well it is better than nothing :D I can't really use my current system as a test for how much it is going to draw, since that is a 4770k running base clock, because anything above that and it becomes insanely unstable and a HD 7950 + 6x120mm fans + 3x sata SSD + 1x HDD. It peaks at about 340w, but the power hungry parts will be a lot more power hungry in my next PC....

As far as I can see a SFF is about 125mm long.

SFF is as small as you can go in terms of good PSU. Again 600w would be fine, but if you are really that concerned for wattage then the next PSU you can get is a 700w Silverstone Platinum certified PSU https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G26SMTQ/?tag=pcpapi-20

ehh 130mm, only a single 1cm smaller than the 850w ATX one and 150w less, but it is slimmer, which might be very nice and maybe give some extra clearance. the SX800-LTI is quite interesting it is also 130mm, but 800w, then again it cost quite a bit more.

Think I am going to look out for the new 750w G3 to see if they can make it 125mm or shorter.

Thanks

PSU calculators are random number generators and often have monetary incentive to exaggerate power demands of the specs of the system input (IE the Cooler Master calculator).

600W is plenty for a 1080 Ti system.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
