And now things are more confusing.  B&C has had solid rumors, but, well, 2066 v2 might need to happen to get 14c, 16c & 18c SK-X chips.  I hope not, as this would be even more of an issue for X299.

Why did they even launch LGA 2066 then? o.O

4c through 12c should work fine.  It is, after all, a Workstation platform. But for the high-end rendering folks, well, 16c at "close enough" IPC from AMD is a problem for Intel. They're supposed to be the "best tech" in the sector. X299 is supposed to be around through 2019 or 2020. But a 2 or 3 year life cycle is going to be run in circles by AMD's X399.

If AMD has "better" products on their HEDT through 2019 when Icelake-X comes, Intel has a problem.  A real big problem. It's not a huge segment, realistically, but it has a much higher "techie discussion" effect. How many YouTubers are sporting 8c or 10c x99 systems?  Intel just recently kitted out all of LTT's editors with 10c systems.  This is why they supply those, as it just comes up all the time.

Though, and this is probably more of an issue for Intel than anything else, whenever Coffee Lake's c6 drops, that's going to be the best "creation task" CPU.  Minus the issue of all of the benefits of a workstation platform.

That seems like a site I'd believe.  xD

It's even better that a suspect site lists something as a rumor.

Pin count also has nothing to do with power delivery.

I think it has, but only slightly. AFAIK, the 7740X has more Vcore pins than the 7700K :D

So did they add some hidden pins to LGA 2011 v3 when they moved from LGA 2011?  :D

They simply changed the configuration of contacts / pins in 2011 v3 to make them electrically and functionally incompatible with previous 2011.  Both had 2011 pins on the socket.  Both were also rated at different TDPs.

Have you seen a LGA 2066 pin out already?
