So I was using FreeNAS Corral, was okay had issue but got canned.

So I tried OpenMediaVault and ran in to issues getting Sonarr set up.

Cant get Xpenology installed.

So now looking for another OS to try, it needs to be able to run NZBget, Sonarr and Radarr/Coachpatato at min.

Corral had many issues and was eventually cancelled. You can go the older FreeNAS route.

I personally use unRAID for my storage server. It can run Docker containers, all of these applications are therefor also available. unRAID is not free though.

I have a super micro server with a xeon cpu I dont have exact specs on me but cant see anything it cant run lol.

I know Linux a bit but not enough to make a barebones NAS on ubuntu or something like that.

so you want a turnkey solution for a custom server. it is not rocket science.

nzbget is in the ubuntu official repos. it couldnt be easier than copy/pasting this apt install nzbget

Sonarr has a debian repo.

https://github.com/Sonarr/Sonarr/wiki/Installation

You can look up the rest of the software.

install ubuntu server and its pretty much a NAS out of the box if you are using non-windows desktops. If you want to connect from a windows machine use the debian wiki, its much better than the ubuntu docs https://wiki.debian.org/SambaServerSimple

I'm not sure if OP ever resolved this issue. If you haven't I'm going to have to throw another vouch in for FreeNAS 9.10 (and soon 11). I too got burned by corral, installing it on my brand new nas with ssd storage, expecting near-gigabit speeds for smb and nfs. I eventually scrapped it and installed 9.10, and it has been running like a breeze. I updated to the release candidates for FreeNAS 11 and it has also been working excellently.

I'm running synology now 200% better than freenas

Plus I work on synology systems in my job so was good way to learn more.
