Looking to buy some mid-high end headphones, my heart is set on Sennheiser but I am open to other suggestions.

Currently I am using Beats executive so anything from here is an upgrade, I am looking for mostly desk use, however if i could listen on the go that would be a plus.

These are the few i am looking at as of now...

-Sennheiser HD 630VB

-Sennheiser HD 600

-Sennheiser HD 650

-Sennheiser HD 700

Can i go wrong with any of these choices?

Also I've been trying to do research and understand that I will need an Amp to drive these types of headphones.

Is a Magni 2 a good solution to drive these types of headphones?

Thanks guys, appreciate the help!

630VB is a good choice if you like more bass or like to have control of your bass.

Audio Technicha ATH-M50x is a very good pair too. But with the M50x you won't need an amp to drive those headphones.

Is this a joke?

What kind of music do you listen to? What aspects of sound reproduction do you value the most (bass, etc).

I listen to everything, I would say mostly hip hop.

Then your statements thus far suggest you are still in the shallow end.

I don't know enough about the HD 630 to comment on it.

As for the others, I would caution that the amount of bass and the extension may not be enough for you. If that isn't a problem, then I my first pick would be the HD 650. HD 600 is probably the most bass-light of all of these.

I would probably suggest against going HD600/650 or 700 for your usecase.  I think something like the Oppo PM3 would be pretty good.  A little U-shaped, not that heavy and it's closed back so you can take it out and about.

Ehh...The HD 700 are infamous for their peaky treble that may cause you ear fatigue. Non-such problems with the HD 600/650.

  • 4 weeks later...

Ended up going with the HD650's and I've had them for roughly a month now. I am thoroughly enjoying them. I paired them with a Schitt Stack (Magni 2 + Modi 2). So far I am in love, I'm hearing things in music I've never quite heard before. These headphones have spoiled me and now I feel somewhat of a slob when listening to others, it just doesn't compare to an Amp/DAC combo with the right headphones. Thank you guys for the suggestions, I would definitely suggest these to anyone who is looking to get into nicer headphones; they still produce some decent bass and AMAZING vocals if you are into that, and I've used them for gaming, audio editing (very amateur), and everyday listening from spotify. Have a wonderful day all!
