So I wanted to buy a Cat7 cable and I was looking at amazon and found this cable and wanted to know if any of you knew if it was any good, I know it is flat but for where it needs to go and how it gets there it is much better being flat then rounded.

Its probably actually gonna run at cat 5e/cat 6 speeds but for the price its not bad.

E stands for Enhanced

like 5 and 5e

Just means faster speeds are obtainable.

Simple really.

Category 6e

Category 6e is not a standard, and is frequently misused because category 5 followed with 5e as an enhancement on category 5. Soon after the ratification of Cat 6, a number of manufacturers began offering cable labeled as "Category 6e". Their intent was to suggest their offering was an upgrade to the Category 6 standard—presumably naming it after Category 5e. However, no legitimate Category 6e standard exists,[10] and Cat 6e is not a recognized standard by the Telecommunications Industry Association. Category 7 is an international ISO standard, but not a TIA standard. Cat 7 is already in place as a shielded cable solution with non-traditional connectors that are not backward-compatible with category 3 through 6A. Category 8 is the next UTP cabling offering to be backward compatible.[11]

So its 6a then I guess *shrugs*

Quote

Category 6A

The standard for Category 6A is ANSI/TIA-568-C.1, defined by the TIA for enhanced performance standards for twisted pair cable systems. It was defined in 2009.[citation needed] Category 6A is defined at frequencies up to 500 MHz—twice that of Cat 6.

Category 6A performs at improved specifications, in particular in the area of alien crosstalk as compared to Cat 6 UTP (unshielded twisted pair), which exhibited high alien noise in high frequencies.

The global cabling standard ISO/IEC 11801 has been extended by the addition of amendment 2. This amendment defines new specifications for Cat 6A components and Class EA permanent links. These new global Cat 6A/Class EA specifications require a new generation of connecting hardware offering far superior performance compared to the existing products that are based on the American TIA standard.[4]

The most important point is a performance difference between ISO/IEC and EIA/TIA component specifications for the NEXT transmission parameter. At a frequency of 500 MHz, an ISO/IEC Cat 6A connector performs 3 dB better than a Cat 6A connector that conforms with the EIA/TIA specification. 3 dB equals 50 % reduction of near-end crosstalk noise signal power; see 3dB-point.[4]

Confusion therefore arises because of the different naming conventions and performance benchmarks laid down by the International ISO/IEC and American TIA/EIA standards, which in turn are different from the regional European standard, EN 50173-1. In broad terms, the ISO standard for Cat 6A is the highest, followed by the European standard, and then the American (1 on 1 matching capability).[5][6][page needed]

But you saw where I was going with it. So they have a fucked up progression standard of labels.

I sincerely doubt that cable is Cat7.

Cat6 (up to around 40-50 meters) or Cat6a (up to 100 meters) is enough for 10gbps.

Cat5e is enough for 1 gbps, you don't gain any benefit (speed or latency) by going with cat6 or higher.

Cat6e doesn't exist. Some use Cat6e when they mean Cat6a.

The words "Standard", "Universal" and "Technology" or "Automobiles" should never be used in context with each other. :D No one in those industries has their shit together in terms of standards or universal formats, parts, or connectors, and they probably don't want to either since that would mean less money from things like patent licensing (aka patent lawsuit trolls) and proprietary hardware sales.

Google Fiber currently provides up to 1 gigabit speeds, so using Cat5e cables would even work fine in your situation. However, might as well buy Cat6a cables @Dodgeyou for the time being, since they're almost the same price anyway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabit_Ethernet#1000BASE-T

"Each 1000BASE-T network segment can be a maximum length of 100 meters (330 feet), and must use Category 5 cable or better (including Cat 5e and Cat 6)."

Cat7 and Cat7a cabling is currently silly because the connectors required for it to be compatible with RJ45 also prevent it from carrying a 10Gig signal, which is the whole reason you'd want Cat7a anyways. Cat8 is supposed to fix this by using a connector that's fully backwards compatible with RJ45 while still providing faster speeds when hooked up to other Cat8 capable devices.
