Any cpu would be a waste if that's your goal. You'd be better off selling the 1070 and getting a gtx 1080 Ti than splurge on a new platform.

@Mooshi i am building the new system for me and the old one will i will be giving to my brother

In that case..if the budget allows, Intel still has the higher IPC. That said, Ryzen is much better than AMD's last gen and fast ram helps close the gap. If it's mostly gaming, I wouldn't splurge on anything above $350* for the cpu.

Gave the GF my Skylake 6700k build and have a Ryzen 1600 myself. Haven't built it yet, still awaiting for the psu to deliver. The fact AMD is viable now is great.

If only gaming go 7700k

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Ryzen 5 1600=more than just capable for everyday game and workstation

I7-7700K=has less cores than Ryzen 5 1600 and above but still accepted as Gaming CPU

Ryzen 7 1700=you're set for everything

"Make it future proof for some years at least, don't buy "only slightly better" stuff that gets outdated 1 year, that's throwing money away" @pipoawas

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).

Mention me if you want to summon me sooner or later
