is my 850w supernova G2 enough

While it is enough, I wouldn't call it exactly easy "way more than enough", it is the right PSU for the configuration, not "overkill" at all but right what you should have to power up everything right.

Yeah, voltage matters more than frequency for power draw, though max frequency is dependent on voltage. If you can get lower voltages that hahould decrease power draw.

because when i run games that dont support sli my top card boosts too 1560mhz if i dont touch afterburner and it needs the extra to be sable so i leave it at +50 for sli too to save messing around all the time =]

I have used the psu calculators for my system and they all say I need around 600W for my 4.5ghz 6600k and rx480.  I can tell you I have never seen my system pull more than 300W from the wall even when intentionally under 100% load on the graphics and cpu.  Real world I usually run around 260W from the wall when gaming.

If the PSU is good like the G2 it will simply power down with no negative effect to the system.

 

If it is a Chinese power bomb, the resistors might force up too much to try feeding the required power burning themselves what would result in a dead PSU with considerable chances to kill the motherboard as the voltage will get messed up, other components should remain fine.

If it was drawing too much power it would just shut off.

 

If it was cheapo horrid quality unit Chinese psu or raidmax psu it would probably blow up :P

It's more than enough, even in a worst-case, unrealistic scenario. In typical workloads, you'll be far from consuming 850W.

 

The symptoms that arise if your power supply cannot power your components are pretty obvious... your games can crash, your system can unexpectedly shut down, 3D performance would be bad... and for crappy power supplies (so not a concern for the G2), they can break or die.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

the point of this post was to eliminate the psu from a problem i am having where out of the blu my pc screens all go black and everything is unresponsive and my mobo code show the number 8 which i cant diagnose and have to reboot. 
it passes aida 64 and a r15 render at the same time for as long as i let it run, up to 6 hours is where i called it stable but every now and again poof black screen number 8 on board, its only happened once since i updated my bios tho so im hoping it is something to do with that and i hope the next bios fixes the issue

For reference a system with 970sli and a 4790k pulls around 550 watts. I'm pretty sure your system won't pull another 350 watts more, I reckon in the 600-700 range.

So I just watched a 980ti sli video and it was pulling 554 watts on crysis 3 with an i7. 

 

850 will be plenty enough.
