Do I need an ssd for raw performance?

no, ssd are just going to load your programs/games faster, it wont increase any performance

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

For a normal user the PC will feel way faster with i5 SSD combo, just not in frame rates.

PS: Personally I would even use a Pentium with 2 core without HT with SSD than using a i7 with 4 cores and 8 threads with HDD for everyday use. (except for games and video editing)

First i5's and i7's are processors (CPUs) and HDD/SSD  are your hard drsk drives. They are to separate things. HDDs/SSDs do not effect CPU perfomance and vice-versa. SSDs are faster at accessing the information stored on the drive in part because of the way it catalogues stored information. SSDs will make your computer boot faster but IT  WILL NOT BOOST CPU performance.

Yeah prices went up in 2017, but when you start to use SSD you cant go back to HDD, it feels just too slow.

The best solution is a small SSD for OS and other software, and using a HDD for games, but its not possible in most laptops.

PS: Stop quoting yourself and double posting...

sadly though they are so so worth it, specially since most laptops come with 5400 rpm drives which can make anything feel really slow and enjoyable. I would def look at getting a SSD as the first upgrade. will blow your mind

I might buy an ssd and put on in myselfat a latter date if I have enough money. However I might not succeed and mess up the whole laptop.

You don't have to quote yourself mate, as it will only notify people who are following this thread: so far, only you.

And putting an SSD in is easy as pie, as long as you get a laptop that has easy access to the HDD (Most gaming laptops will, except super slim ones).

Please stop quoting yourself. That doesn't make any sense. What is this laptop/build for? What is it, if you already have it?

I would get ryzen 1600 and SSD. Ryzen is very good for everything and it's not much slower than an i7 at a cheaper price.

Edit: I realize you're getting a laptop which doesn't come with ryzen yet. But either way, I'd still get an i5 SSD. An i5 vs i7 is around 10 fps in a game, but an SSD is over half the load time of an HDD.
