I did a stupid now I nee an opinion

TOSaunders

So, I'm just going to get this over with, I'm an idiot. I have a 27" dell monitor that I love(d) that I use for productivity for school (Architecture student) and gaming for my PC and xbox. Currently I'm living in Ireland for Uni, but I'm moving back home to Canada. Me, in my infinite wisdom, placed the monitor on an in even surface, and something not really all that heavy fell on it and extended some damage that an airline did to it before (I had lines on the screen for a few days and a coloured blob but it magically disappeared) and it turned into a nice split running strait through the monitor. So, long story short, I need a new monitor.

I've been looking around at a few things and in my budget there's not much for higher refresh rates. My current monitor is 60hz so should I even bother with trying? There's another kink to it (lol kink), I actively have bezels. That was my biggest reason when I bought this monitor was the almost bezeless design that dell has. Even my laptop I chose for that reason (Dell xps 13) so finding that makes it that much harder.

Another thought, to add to the list, was maybe going from a single large display to two slightly smaller. I was thinking maybe two 21.5" or two 23" displays. It was just a thought though. I could just buy one for now and buy another later, wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

I was thinking like $300 CAD for one and long term like $400/450 for two.

Some of my ideas so far:

http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Gaming_Accessories/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=210-AIZR

https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236792

My current graphics card doesn't have the setup for two, but I think I'm upgrading to something like an RX580 so two display ports would be ideal.

So if you made it this far, congrats, you did it. Also, if you'd rather just come and have a giggle at my misery I suppose that would be ok too. I have no rush for anything immediately, I can still survive with a laptop and an xbox for a little while, or just use my crappy TV for the time being. Thanks in advance!

Agree with above, the ultrawide is IMO perfect for most uses.. and I have that exact one and can recommend it for sure.

Yey the price of oil in the midst of global instability!!! Oh, and trump, I blame him a little lol. The only reason 400 is on there was if I bought two monitors because I wouldn't buy them at the same time. I'm still a broke ass student lol.

Just what I was thinking of saying, that's a lot more expensive than OP wants.

Though OP maybe you should save up for it, looks great.

Other options (though not really "gaming" monitor)

Didn't have to be gamer-esc. I actually don't usually like that look. Generally not clean. They push the budget I little, again with the CAD translation, for a single monitor (which I would prefer a larger single) and blow doubles out of the water lol. I was thinking this for a double setup maybe?

Ahh I see, I misunderstood, I thought you were OK for budgeting that much for 2 monitors, which an ultrawide replaces mostly. I used to use 2 monitors, but the ultrawide has far surpassed them in useability with all the options it has for screen splitting and picture in picture etc, you can even display 1 input in a small picture, or side by side with your main input etc, I love this monitor and it's worth it's weight in gold for productivity. And it also looks good for gaming :D

Ok, well I hope you find what you're looking for.

For that price sure why not. Looks good too. But definitely go for a second one with that size. I have two Dell U2410F monitors (1920x1200) and love having two. Though might upgrade to a single 144Hz 4k IPS monitor that no one will buy at that price, like me certainly not xD

Lol true. I actually got a great deal right off Dell originally with my monitor. I saved like $200 bucks off the thing right off the bat.

Aaaah that looks terrible, time to skip it. Orr.. open the backpanel check model number of screen and get one off ebay.

More luck that way than looking for the monitors name though might find that way too.

Thought about it, the price and the risk (not to mention the skill required) it wouldn't be worth it I don't think

Ah well, I could do it with closed eyes :P but fair enough.

Today I opened my laptop until I was able to take the motherboard out just so I can change the thermal paste on the CPU xD..

Alrighty then you can settle on that Acer or Asus, the one you posted.
