Hello guys, i'm not sure if this power supply is power full enough to run a r9 290 as a eGPU. (when i write eGPU, i mean when a graphics card is connected to a laptop)

Right now the power supply has 2 6-pin, and that is it, but one 6-pin is about 75 watts, then i should be able to run an 8-pin from those two?

And would it then be okay to use a molex to 6 pin adapter?

or sould i just use some money :P

Thanks in advance :)

It's pretty sketch, but it should work.

maybe 2 molex > 8-pin and then plug in only 6 of those 8 pins.

since a molex is 60W

What do you mean connected to a laptop but you are talking about a power supply for a desktop?

Unsure what power supply to pick?

I have a adapter the can adapt the mini pcie express from my laptop (wifi card usually sits) to a normal 1x port where i can use a desktop graphics card :)

it works with my gtx 660 :)

That will give you very little bandwidth and limit your graphics card's performance

As for the power supply, it seems unreliable, but since a GPU is the only thing it is going to power, it should be fine.

Not sure whether your R9 290 has 1 8pin or 1 8pin and 1 6pin. you will need 2 molex for a 6pin and 2 6pins for an 8 pin. Make sure your PSU has enough of them

Yha it will limit my performance, but i got the r9 290 really cheap 675 dkk (about 100 usd) so i hope that it is worth it :)

and thanks for your input

LC-6560 tells you it's a LC-Power or something like that. Some ancient design, cheap HEC or some other very cheap design and overrated (they lie on their labels and use misleading product codes in the name)

The power supply claims it can do 560w and in theory it can do that if you add all the voltages and currents together but nobody does that these days, it's a common method  to trick people into buying it thinking it's a better model, but in reality it's more like a 400w power supply.

Video cards and processors are powered from 12v, and that power supply claims it has two 12v rails, each with maximum 18A, so in total 12v x 18a x 2 = 430 watts on 12v.

In real world. that power supply can probably deliver continuously maybe 300 - 350 watts on 12v

A video card can consume up to around 60 watts from the slot, up to 75w from a 6pin connector and up to 150 watts from a pci-e 8 pin connector. So if the card has one pci-e 8pin connector, it may consume up to 150w+60w = ~ 210 watts from the power supply.

It doesn't matter how you create that pci-e 8 pin connector, you can take one pair of wires (yellow and black) from a hard drive connector another pair from the 24pin atx connector, another pair from somewhere else ... the power supply isn't smart enough to make the difference between the connectors.

If the power supply truly has two rails, which i doubt, it could be that the 12v wires in the 24 pin connector and the 4/8 pin cpu connector are connected to the first rail, and the pci-e connectors are connected to the second rail.

So if your video card requires two pci-e 8 pin connectors or one pci-e 8 pin and one pci-e 6 pin, maybe use an existing pci-e 6 pin and create the pci-e 8 pin connector from the 24 pin atx connector or cpu connector wires.
