120GB isn't enough if you want more storage. Moreover, you didn't give the exact model of the SSD.

Go for the 1 TB drive.

I would actually suggest going for  2 TB because the price difference between 1TB  and 2 TB is very small and often worth the money.

But, if your system is very old (as in maybe 10-15 years old, in the times of SATA 1, 3gbps max), some motherboards may not recognize properly hard drives with capacity of over 2 TB.

It supports sata 3 so it should be fine, but thanks for the input

He only has a 250 GB HDD. When most new games are now in the 10-40 GB range, seems like using a SSD for OS and only 250 GB for games, movies and music would be a bad choice.

A 1TB or 2 TB drive would be better investment if you're gaming or if you're interested in watching HD movies.

You can always find some money to buy a SSD at a later time.

I may have said something different if the guy already had at least a 500 GB or 750 GB HDD, but with just 250 GB that computer probably needs storage more than speed.

With the non important data moved from that 250 GB drive to the storage drive and with some hdd defragmentation, the operating system will also seem a bit faster.
