R7 1700 vs i7 7700 for Siemens NX10 CAD

1 minute ago, 19_blackie_73 said:

nice

though i really have to say, university cad stuff is not that demanding as many people who are studying need to learn the basics first. I really would go with the 1700 though, as it looks more promising for the future.

same thing I thought

This is the none k i7

The i7 7700 didn't bottleneck a Titan X(Pascal) I used  to have so really isn't any worse than you think.

Pretty sure a quadro should be something you should definitely go for. I'm pretty sure this would be better than a 1070 or even 1080 for what you're doing.

@TheHoffmannyou shouldn't be looking at "measly" GeForce cards for this, but rather quadro and FirePro cards.

Yes I know it's nx 8 but same idea should apply. You can see just how horribly the 780ti is slaughtered by its quadro counterparts.

I thought you said your priorities were uni tho?...

Anyhow, this is gonna be like a 10-20% worse 1060, so it won't be that bad.

I guess, but your budget is only allowing a 1060 ATM and the quadro isn't that much worse...

quadro not really worth it tbh, most stuff is ok on normal gpus. you only notice the difference if you go crazy big assemblies and such, but most of the time at uni, you won't do that

seems that siemens nx handles this a bit different. I'm using solid works, Inventor and Catia, and they tend to need better gpus only in large assemblies. Though I don't think that for an engineering student this makes a huge difference, hence why I got my 970 back in the day instead of a similar priced quadro. Most times, CAD programs benefits most from good cpu performance in the first place, and if it gets really complex, gpu comes into play. As a student, I didn't have to do any crazy stuff yet and even the PCs at work only have a very basic quadro from 2010 and it works too, sometimes a bit choppy if you have a large assembly with many parts, but workable. So I wouldn't freak out about GPUs, get a normal GTX gpu and call it a day, especially as the GTX parts also give their performance to the programs, but just not officially supported and as efficient as maybe quadro/firepro counterparts. The GTX will also benefit you more in every other workload for a normal human being like gaming

Not all boards turbo all cores most just 1 core. And if it's stays at 3.6 a 4ghz ryzen when will beat it the icp isn't that far behind
