It's more CPU bound especially at that resolution. You have 124 frames anyway, so it doesn't matter much.

Maybe will drop a few FPS if you only change the resolution and don't change the video settings

Probbably because of the FPS cap.

Change resolution to 1920x1080 and see what FPS and CPU/GPU usage you get.

Happens to me in certain games, its usually because your CPU is limited. For instance my GPU in fallout 4 and PUBG only goes to 99% sometimes, then it fluctuates from anywhere between 1-99% randomly, while that's happening, my cpu is exploding at 80+% usage. Open worlds are not nice to quad cores.

I'm sure you can up the resolution, no problem.  Try upping it to 1980x1080 and tell give us the results you get there, that will be helpful.  And, the other members are right.  120 fps is good enough.  It could be a CPU bottleneck or frame capping depending on the CPU usage.
