i3 4170 for 768p gaming?

Is an i3 4170 good enough for gaming triple A titles and online games like dota and smite when paired with a gtx 1050 on 768p? will i experience some stuttering after some gaming on it? obviously it's a build solely for gaming and i ain't into like "ultra or nothing" mentality, i just want smooth gameplay with no stuttering or craches

More than enough for 1080p

 

I played BF1 at 1080p at ultra settings with a 4160 and it was fine.

yes, it bottlenecked my 1070, but not enough to make it drop under 60FPS

If you're going for 768p, even a Q6600 + GTX 650 Ti would suffice.

cpu and screen resolution are pretty unrelated, the difference in cpu usage is almost neglible, whereas gpu core usage scales pretty much linearly with resolution.

I don't play DOTA or Smite but I would see what kind of CPU usage they report. You might be better served by a G4560 or i5.

I have played bf4 with an i3 3220 and an r9 270x on high settings multiplayer 64 player map

 

low 54 avg 70 max 92

 

I think you will be fine.

 

Although my i5 is definitely better than I thought, since it did seem theoretically to be much of an upgrade.
