Good game engine for 3-D?

Hey, guys, i want to make a 3-d bullet hell game and I was wondering what engine would be best for me. I want it to have multiplayer capabilities later on as well. I am trying to make a 3-d version of realm of the mad god for me and my friends to play. I'm new to game design, but difficulty doesn't matter to me as long as I can make it efficient. I know the most common is unity but from what I have experienced it's always laggy for even simple games. as far as my knowledge goes I know java, c++, and some gml code. Thanks for any help!

Unity might be good. I don't know if Unreal can do it, but it may be worth looking at.

I hear good things about unreal, also it supports C++ unlike unity which uses C# or Java.

For strictly 2d games, you may prefer unity, but if you use 3d then unreal is likely a better choice.

Unity(javascripts or c sharp) or Unreal engine

Unreal is IMO the nicest engine out there, but Unity is much easier.

Unity makes for odd pseudo 3d  (3d 2 and a half?)shooting, as it is essentially Infinity 3.5. Don't get me wrong, one of my favorite games was made with it, Shadowrun: Dragonsfall (Cyber/Steampunk turn based shooter/slasher with dragons. Fricken great game. Cheap on Steam too! Unreal would be the way to go for true 3d.
