My 2600k died and it doesn't work in my friends ivy bridge mobo.

 

Which cpu do you recommend Ryzen or Kaby Lake.

 

I have a current budget of $2000 CAD.

Do you just game? If so, get 7700K,

If you do both gaming / editing or rendering get Ryzen 1700. It can be overclocked so it almost matches 1800X and it doesn't run hot at all.

Ryzen.

 

It will hold its value better AND it will last you an extra 2-3 years because of the extra cores/threads.

I sold everything on that PC, they were all 6-7 year old even my Radeon 6950. It lasted its time for me.

Obviously get 1080 TI if you can afford it. It will last you a long time. 600W PSU (EVGA GOLD+) or Corsair RMx 650W. Both amazing get one of those. Case is up to you, I wouldn't get anything expensive. If you haven't kept HDD then just get SSD for Windows 120GB and 2TB HDD for games and other stuff. Buy about 3-4 fans to keep the airflow going, I recommend Thermaltake Green Riing edition ones, but different color than green of course. You'll get Wraith Cooler with Ryzen CPU so no worries there, and for mobo, get cheapest X370 mobo. It should be a decent PC.

ryzen 1700 build, 7700k won't keep up with streaming well.

I suggest to reduce the SSD from 250GB to 120GB to reduce costs in your list.

Also, he would get by with 650W power supply too (as long as it reduces cost).
