I was at first considering getting a rx 480 or r9 nano for my new pc that uses a 768p tv monitor.  I'd have thought that the rx580 would match the r9 nano performance-wise while consuming a little more power from the wall.. (AMD clearly haven't improved too much). Do I need that amount of power for 768p? I don't want to spend a stupid amount, considering the resolution and the fact I only have £250 to spend. My cpu is a fx 9590. As you can imagine, I'd prefer it if my pc overall had a gpu with as little power consumption as possible. The goal is to run any game that is possible to throw at it at maximum settings on 768p. Would the rx 550 or rx560 do that, or would I need rx 570 and above?

Which of the rx 500 series should I get or should I stick to buying the r9 nano instead? It needs to be an upgrade over my 750ti.

Only 768p? even the 750ti is overkill for that resolution,if u want to buy a RX 500 series then probably 100+ fps each game cause of that resolution,

anyway get a RX 550,560 for that resolution

I'm thinking it'd be a good idea to eventually upgrade more than the GPU.  If that's all you want to upgrade now, then the RX 570 should be more than enough for 768p, and would even allow for an upgrade to a 1080p monitor.  (You could even get an RX 570 AND a basic 1080p monitor for a little over £250.)

If you're sticking with 768p for now, and planning to upgrade the GPU again when you upgrade the monitor later, then the RX 460 should be plenty, I think.

Spoiler

Maybe you want to skip 1080p and eventually go to 1440p?  I'm planning the same thing, on a different level.  I'm on 1080p, skipping 1440p and waiting for prices to come down before I go 4K.  For example, I'd be eyeing like 32", 10-bit, 100% s/Adobe RGB, Adaptive Sync, which are now around ~US$1K.  When they're down around $300 that's when I might jump.  Also hopefully by then I can upgrade from my GTX 1060 3GB, to something for ~$250-300 that could play the then-newest AAA titles at 4K ultra, without ever dipping below 60 fps, or even 120fps so I could keep the card longer.

I'm guessing / hoping this would be around 2020-2022 or so.  I might even want 8K if, by then, a decent sub-$1K 8K video camera exists.

If you go with the RX 460 and keep the 768p monitor, that would leave you some pounds left over to put toward upgrading the platform.  Or, maybe you could keep the 750 ti for now, and upgrade to like a Ryzen 5 and a B350 board.  (Although, it would be well over £250 once you consider you'd also need DDR4 RAM.)  That would bring the power consumption down, as the Ryzen 5 CPUs are 65 watts (except the 1600X which is 95 watts), a far cry from the FX-9590's 220-watts.  (That's actually TDP, but I think differences in power consumption should be similar, depending on overclocks.)

i would get a GTX 1050, bank the rest of your money and spend it elsewhere...you don't need to spend more than a GTX 1050 for that screen resolution...maybe a 1050ti if you want some more.

i would say buy  you wont regret  even if you play a 720p  you can max out  all games   the 750 ti is a weak card  now  i can say from experience  i play on 720p too  but   with a r9 270x that  have more power than the 750ti and  on  some aaa games  just cant keep up  and need  to lower some settings.

as above say you  can buy a rx480 -580  and you will be fine.
