Hi guys, I am a new member in this forum, so hello everyone :).

I am planning to buy a gaming monitor and found out that 27'' QHD with 144Hz fps is the sweet spot of gaming monitors. However I really cant decide which one to choose.

between ASUS PG278QR and ASUS PG279Q.

Is the color reproduction so much better on the IPS panel in comparison to the TN panel? Is the viewing angle so bad in the TN panel? How about the quality control issues that ASUS has like backlight bleeding and IPS glow?

IPS by far, much better quality with colours, viewing angles overall a better experience.

How about IPS glow then? Is it that noticeable while watching videos or playing any outer space games? Would you rather trade off IPS glow for a better viewing angle?

If I am not mistaken  @M.Yurizaki shown a very interesting chart not long ago that featured these monitors where showed that the TN variant actually had really good colour accuracy making it a more tempting pick should you benefit from a higher refresh rate and lower input delay.

Although generally speaking IPS usually has a more luxurious touch and feel, with the plus of being able to look at screen for different angles and light sources like sun light less troublesome.

It will depend on what you game the most, if you're into single player campaigns to enjoy good graphics and immersion the IPS should end up the better pick, TN for E-Sports and other fast paced games.

The caveat still is if you're viewing things off center on a TN panel, and it's trivially easy to do once you get in the mid 20s for inches, there will be color shifting.

I prefer ips but I have a friend with a TN panel and he lives the monitor. Good for response time and refreshrate for cheap. Monitors is largely about preference so it's hard to say.

Apparently the IPS panel on the asus monitor has a lower response time than the TN panel version. Moreover a 2 ms increase in response time will not be discernible at all in real time

Careful not to confuse GTG with input delay, these are two different things, both important but the greatest majority of retailers only have the GTG numbers

You would want some deep blacks, and ips is better at it than TN.

Keep in mind high refresh rate Ips panels have a very high chance of backlight bleed, so thoes black space games wont be that great if you see a faint glow on the sides.

I never used an IPS monitor before until I got my new laptop. I loved the display so much. Even brightness distribution, vivid colours, nice viewing angles etc. Can't go back to TN panel right now.

Yes, the response time in IPS is longer than the TN ones but it's hard to notice the difference.

Still, there are some monitors with decent TN panels so be sure to check them out.

I have attached a chart with GTG and input delay added together. Not sure how the reviewer got this data. You can find the comparison in the below link:

i heard the S2716DG has some color shifting and uniformity issues (it's a TN panel as well). it's a little tougher to recommend this monitor over the S2417DG* but it's still a good deal if you can find it

*why the heck did Dell change 6 to a 7? really...

Dell's model names are [Some letter that means something][Year of release][Other letters that mean whatever]

So the reason why it's S2717DG instead of S2716DG is it's the 2017 model.
