Mac doesn't really get viruses

I'd call that true, to a certain extent.

I've been using OS X since 2006 and have never needed an antivirus. That's the beauty of it.

yea but i cant figure out how to enable PUP detection on it any ideas

PUP detection is under the Scan -> Quickscan or fullscan -> Settings on said scan -> Sensitivity -> Scan for PUP.

As Lanoi said common sense is a good start. Other than that unless you agreed to install something you should be fine. Clicking a link is not enough to suddenly be the victim of a keylogger, especially not on a Mac.

i know that i just want a way to enable pup detection or find a malware scanner

its not impossible. i wouldend think that there are as much virusses as for normal PC's, but if you download a fair whack of adult entertainment, you will likely encounter some issues.

It's not really that mate, in this day and age there is cross platform malware popping up, but to be honest, for a botnet, who would you target?, an open market with around a 75% share (Windows) or a smaller and highly locked down OS (OSX)?, also add in the fact many malware creators have to get used to OSX OS to even be able to start in that sector, also a nice to thing to add is, a lot of people just think to themselves when they own an OSX based device that they're totally safe, what about the Windows based PC's that a USB stick they own would come into contact with?

Hrmm, not too sure then mate, may be entirely different on the MAC side of things, it's pretty darn easy to access on mine.

No worries mate, can't you access the fullscans preferences?, and can you create a new custom scan?

I highly doubt it mate, I personally wouldn't bother reinstalling, you're best off doing a repair as apposed to a reinstall but even then I think the program is semi locked down since Mac isn't as vunerable as Windows malware wise. So they wouldn't have added in the customisable scan and / or settings.

  • 4 weeks later...

Why would someone revive a month old thread?

because it's his second post, probably didn't know it was a month old after coming to it from a search function and wanted to contribute.
