Chrome and Firefox Phishing Attack Uses Domains Identical to Known Safe Sites

I wonder if these identically named domains have signed https certificates though. If they don't that's an easy way to tell them apart.

This happened to me, I didn't notice when the browser said the connection wasn't secure, and I thought it was a legit website (cambridge.edu.au in this case), but it was too late and somebody logged in to my instagram account :(

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

 

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Ah. I was afraid so. Isn't that an issue with the certificates though rather than with the domain names?

And hopefully Chrome / Firefox update their browser quickly.

needless to say, I don't have the language pack of that language installed on my phone. So it's "safe" on my side.

 

At least Vivaldi on desktop is protected.

Issue isn't there on Chrome v59, so we know a "fix" is available soon(tm)

It might be a while before this is pushed out. I'm on 58.0.3029.68 beta and the issue still exists.

This made me take a second look at Vivaldi. I last used it while it was in beta. Tons of things have been changed for the better. A personal issue with the way tabs were managed was fixed too, and that was my only holdout with Vivaldi. Will not be using it as my go-to browser instead of Chrome.

It might be more than a while:

Version 59.0.3067.6 dev (64-bit)

Beta is 1-2 weeks behind stable, Canary is 4 weeks I think, Dev is 6 weeks
