Why do PCs look so bad on TVs?

emmettontheweb
Go to solution Solved by Techicolors,

this is mostly due to most TVs not supporting 4:4:4 chroma subsampling. any lower and text and small assets will look a bit strange, sometimes blurry. if you're looking into using a TV as a PC monitor, make sure it can do 4:4:4 subsampling.

also input lag when using various modes + resolution combinations, like PC Mode if applicable

In the past whenever I hook up a laptop via hdmi or even vga, it seems to look really bad, even with over scan correction. Can anyone explain why?

Cheap/mediocre TVs use cheap control boards and cheap panels, whereas monitors use higher quality panels, control boards, and general electronics.

idk

Set the scaling to 100 or 125% if you're using external display only or when it is extended. Also, check the settings of your TV if color profiles or check out for contrast, sharpness and hue.

I have a 1080p TV and a 1080p monitor. I would say the monitor is crappier than the TV

Oh yeah that makes sense because more people by TVs then they buy computer monitors and you aren't viewing small text on TVs anyway so they can just use cheap parts.
