Cheapest power supply for overclocking?

Emillionaire

I'm currently building a computer, where i intend to overclock the CPU.
I need a new PSU though, but on the cheap.
What is the minimum requirement? I'm thinking watt, voltage, 80+ rating and such.

The CPU i intend to overclock is a i7 920.

Also, if i do not wish to overclock it, what is the minimum requirement?
I tried an old 400W which worked, but I've heard by friends that at least 500W is required.

Thank you for the help. :)

When selecting a PSU, QUALITY is very important. Get tier 1-3 PSU from the PSU tier list.

Not above 60 USD. I'm currently looking on the used market.
In that case, i might have to stick with my 2.7 Ghz.

Antec True Power Quattros are often fairly cheap on eBay.

To be honest, I haven't had any issues with this PSU: http://amzn.to/2oxmvyj I had the 12v rail die on me once, but they fixed it and sent me a new unit within a week. I was new to OC'ing and my build probably just ate too much power. Really good save that.

Mainline: MacBook Air M1 Display(s): Acer K272HUL; VIOTEK - GNV32DB Keyboard/Mouse: Logitech M720/K780 Sound: AirPods 3 Operating System: MacOS Phone: iPhone 13 Pro (Graphite)

Of course the CX600 from Corsair also has a good rep.

But is 500W enough for overclocking?

Yes likely, but you shouldn't base your PSU choice on your CPU but on your GPU. That's what draws by far and away the most power and produces the most heat. What GPU will you be using?

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.
