Ryzen 5 vs FX 8350

So i've been waiting for ryzen 5 for a while now and i'm planning on upgrading to it however, i haven't really seen it put up against the FX lineup. My 8350 is only 2 years old at this point and it's still going strong so i was wondering is it worth getting ryzen 5 now or waiting a little while and sticking with the 8350? I mostly use my PC for gaming and i have picked up some CPU heavy games recently which the 8350 is struggling with a little but is easily rectified by changing the settings down lower.

Current build:

FX 8350

Sapphire R9 fury nitro

8GB kingston HyperX fury ram

Gigabyte 970 gaming motherboard

CX 750W cosair PSU

planned build:

1600

MSI X370 Pro Carbon motherboard

16GB Kingston DDR4

remember the platform is only 6 weeks old, theres a lot of improvements to come, I would say it will be a decent upgrade if you opt for the 6 core variant

Yeah that's what i was thinking, ryzen 7 is a little out of my price range and i have no real need for an 8C/16T CPU

Still better than an atom CPU :)

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Yeah, i didn't realise two years ago that getting an 8350 was kinda trapping myself a little on a platform with no real upgrade path after it, was a bit of a tech noob at the time :)

Id upgrade, if you're playing more cpu heavy games it makes sense to. Remember you are going to need atleast 3000mhz ram Here are benchmarks for a fx 8370 compared to ryzen 5 and 7 http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2822-amd-ryzen-r7-1800x-review-premiere-blender-fps-benchmarks/page-7
