Windows 10 spooks

So i turned off my pc last night. Im sure i did then sometime during the middle of the night my screen turns on. i could see the light through my sheet. I awoke im blind so i need to put on my glasses. windows was configuring updates telling me too hold on it was almost done. 3am i was like hell no unplugged from the wall and shut off the psu. Is this normal should i get use to this.

PC went to sleep instead of shutting down.

I had a similar experience once, my pc is full of blue lights and when it turns on every fan goes to 100% and there are like 10 fans.

It was scary AF when it turned on at exactly 2AM to install updates, never left my pc in sleep ever again.

It was like a blue jet taking off right next to my bed...

The system was not shutdown, it was put to sleep.

 

Windows 10 will update itself if you don't keep it updated.

The OS will install updates, and restart the computer all based on the settings you put.

Under Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, you can configure your active hours, and under Start > type: Maintenance > Pick: Security and Maintenance > expand: Maintenance, you can set when Windows will start its maintenance schedule.

 

Personally, I tend to build an ultra quiet computer, and no RGB or whatever light crap, and turn off the screen when I am done. Like this Windows can do its thing, and never wake me up.

Letting your PC wake automatically from sleep is a good thing. It makes sure it gets all the crap you don't want it doing when you're using it (defragmentation, virus scans, updates, etc.) done so that during you're normal use hours it can perform optimally.

Annoying as it might have been at 3am, I would not have unplugged it in the middle of running an update... Just shut the monitor off instead. ;)

There's supposed to be. Windows normally creates one before applying any updates.

 

But they aren't foolproof.

 

You should basically never just yank the cord and shut the power off, especially during an update, unless it's an emergency (Eg: You're watching a virus infection before your very eyes). Cutting the power during an update can easily brick the OS, requiring a full format and reinstall.
