I haven't a clue what is with people waiting for VEGA personally. You likely will have to wait further upon release until AMD decide to optimize it for its games as normally found, thus, benchmarks will likely not exist until a week after launch. For a competitive price against the 1080ti you won't likely se any lower than £583+. I would purchase a GTX 1080 personally. For 1440p it certainly isn't lacking performance. Or anywhere near to lacking.

Abyssal, please good sir, I'm poor good sir, spare GPU sir? Spare GPU sir? Please great sir. I poor D:

ye lasttime i checked cheapest 1080ti was £650-700 meanwhile £480 for a zotac amp 1080

The Fury X cost $650 at launch so I expect the highest end Vega GPU to cost around $650 as well....

@Jordyrock IMO, you should get the 1080. I don't think that Vega will be cheaper and even if it is a bit faster than the 1080, the 1080 will be more power efficient and will therefore run cooler.

I would absolutely love for Vega to be priced like last generation. A competitor to the 1080 Ti for £500 wouldn't have been considered disruptive a year ago, but it would totally be now.

IMO, you should get a 1080.... The only reason to wait for Vega is Freesync, but if you want to game using that 4K TV, just get the 1080,Vega is honestly not worth the wait.

The choice is really up to you bud :D I got my aftermarket 1080 for $510 I don't think that Vega will be that cheap nor do I think that it will be faster than a 1080 (in most games anyways)

There are a lot of claims here about vega, and absolutely none of them can be verified.

We know nothing about performance, price or power efficiency. They might beat Nvidia in 1 or all of these categories or they might not.

Already having a freesync or g-sync monitor should heavily influence your decision.

I'd get the 1080 if you don't wanna spend $600-$700 on a gpu, but if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, wait for Vega and see if it beats the 1080ti.

performance

Mostly speculation, but AMD's Doom Demo (I think it was in Computer) showed Vega being 5% faster than the 1080 in Vulkan. So in DX11 it should be 5-10% slower than the 1080 and in DX12 it should be more or less on par with a 1080...

Actually, it won't be as power efficient as the 1080 and we can understand that by the fact that Vega has 2 power connectors and by Vega's larger die size.

While most of it is speculation, I see no reason why Vega would cost less than its predecessor

All of this is speculation and all we saw were engineering samples. All of that could change. die size =/= indication of performance or power efficiency, although it does hint at the possibilities.

Not to mention that ryzen was rather disruptive on pricing

In the end, we just don't know.

Yes, but engineering samples are pretty close to the actual retail GPU

I know, but generally, a larger die means higher power consumption....

Well, that was an easy thing to do, as all Intel Enthusiast grade CPUs are overpriced. But I would not call the 1080 overpriced, so in order for Vega to be cheaper, they would have to price it very aggressively.

If you have a FreeSync monitor, wait for Vega. Words cannot describe how amazing a VRR monitor is. Not to mention you'll get a card much better at low level APIs.
