Wait for vega?

Should I wait for vega or should I get a gtx 1080 now. I am upgrading from a gtx 760. I am running an ultrawide and another 1080p. Might upgrade to a 1440p or 4K screen in the future.

You can get a 1080 for as low as $500 right now. Go for it, if Vega is competitive with the 1080 Ti don't expect it to cost less than $600....

I haven't a clue what is with people waiting for VEGA personally. You likely will have to wait further upon release until AMD decide to optimize it for its games as normally found, thus, benchmarks will likely not exist until a week after launch. For a competitive price against the 1080ti you won't likely se any lower than £583+. I would purchase a GTX 1080 personally. For 1440p it certainly isn't lacking performance. Or anywhere near to lacking.

Unless you have a freesync monitor, just go for Pascal. Vega most likely won't have a large perf/$ advantage over Pascal, if any.

The Fury X cost $650 at launch so I expect the highest end Vega GPU to cost around $650 as well.... 

@Jordyrock IMO, you should get the 1080. I don't think that Vega will be cheaper and even if it is a bit faster than the 1080, the 1080 will be more power efficient and will therefore run cooler.

Okay thanks EnergyEclipse, it has taken me a while to save up for a new gpu so I would like to buy the best one I can for my money.

I have a freesync monitor and yeah I was thinking about that. I am not sure where people are getting the prices that it will cost like £550

I think that the reason why people believe that the Vega GPU will cost $550 is that AMD is trying to compete and to do that, they need to have lower prices

In that case, it might be worth waiting purely so that you can leverage freesync.

And g-sync vs free-sync is a huge difference in 4k monitors price wise, scaling as the size goes up. A HUGE difference, and is not much better than Free-sync which TV's are now integrating due to the amd chipset in consoles.

 

1. I would not wait for Vega.

2. I've seen 1080's for under $500 usd

3. If you are going to update your monitor, I would wait for the 5 series launch, see what the real Polaris refresh is capable of, and probably pair two 480 4gb or 2 580 4gb (or 8gb models if you want to go into the 1080 price range).

 

If you upgrade to a g-sync monitor, then go NVidea all the way, but price the monitors first, as a 24" free-sync 4k is around $200 usd compared to $350+ for the same brand and model of a g-sync.
