AMD Upgrade

After running my current rig for the last five or six years with minor upgrades, I'm thinking it's time for me to finally break in to the newest generation. I will be using this new rig for gaming and general purpose needs.

What I'm currently rocking:

Case: CM Mastercase Pro 5

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2

MoBo: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0

SD/HD: Samsung 850 evo 250g (OS, primary game), ADATA SP550 240g (games), Seagate Barracuda 1Tb (storage), WD Blue 1Tb (backup)

OS: Win7 Pro 64

CPU: AMD FX 6350

-Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO

GPU: Sapphire R9 270x Vapor X

Ram: 2x2 Mushkin Blackline Enhanced 1600mhz, 2x2 OCZ Gold 1600mhz

Optical: Asus DRW-24B1ST

Peripheral: Logitech K800, Etekcity M910, 2x Asus VS248H-P 24", SteelSeries Siberia 800

Misc: Soundcard (Asus Xonar 5.1), 2x Darkside UV strips, 3x Cougar 140mm Blue, 2x Cougar 120mm Blue

What I'm planning on upgrading:

MoBo: Gigabyte GA-AX370 Gaming (White)

CPU: R5 1500x

*Ram: G.Skill TridentZ RGB 4x8 3000mhz

GPU: Vega 11 of some description

Misc: 3x Corsair AF140mm RGB, 2x 120mm Corsair SP120

**I also plan on throwing this all on water with:

Pump: Primochill D5 PWM

-Top/Bracket: Monsoon MMRS D5 (White)

Res: Alphacool Coolplex 15 LT

CPU Block: EK Supremacy EVO AMD (Nickel Plexi)

Rad: XSPC EX240 LP or Black Ice Nemesis 240GTS

The general gist is to upgrade to a modern system and use an adapter with my optical drive externally if I ever need it. Thoughts?

*I am aware there might be some issues with the ram. Hoping it'll sort itself out.

** The WC is more for aesthetics than anything else while serving a useful purpose. I've got the loop pretty much planned out with drain ports and valves.

*** I'm sticking with Win7 even though SmallFlacid is really pushing against it. I REALLY don't like Win10, and I'm holding on to Win7 until they make an OS worth upgrading to. I am aware there might be some issues.

Better let the hardware launch and let it get some reviews before finalizing it.

You'll have to get win10 for Ryzen, win 7 doesn't work quite efficient and also it isn't getting any updates for Ryzen.

Do you actually need 32GB of RAM? Seems a little overkill.

You sure manage to get way with little amounts of storage!

I would drop to 16GB of RAM and upgrade to a 1700.  Otherwise pretty good

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

He's got 500gb on ssds and 2tb on drives. Not exactly "little amounts"

I'd settle for 16, but I like having all my dimms occupied. To my knowledge, g.skill doesn't sell them in 2x4 or 4x4 sets.

The computer holds mainly music and some photos. I play a small lineup of games, and that's taken care of by the adata. It's taken me nearly 4 years to get 500 gigs on my Seagate.

Depends how you look at it. Having the SSD divided into two means that you can't necessarily fit as many games onto them.

Plus one is the Windows drive.

As for the HDDs, one is a back up which I assume mirrors the data drive.

These days, considering the scope of the build he's doing, that's a little amount.
