144hz monitor and is the best on my eyes

Hi guys,

 

I'm looking for a 144hz monitor which will not put strain on my eyes, or will lower the amount. The monitor i have make my eyes so painfull.

You could turn your brightness down, or backlight, what ever it's called on your monitor.

Yes i have tried, but im looking to upgrade now to a 144hz and just want to know which monitor will benefit my eyes aswell.

I guess you have issue with the blue light?

 

In that case I would just get any 144Hz TN monitor that has blue light reduction feature, that will screw with color accuracy so paying extra for IPS wouldn't make much sense besides better viewing angles.

I'm sorry to say that maybe those 144hz screens aren't for you if your eyes get too tired. They use a strobbing technique that essentially is flashing the backlight very fast. Do you have any epilepsy history?

Have you ever heard of PWM flickering? That's the reason that cause me to have eye strain.

I suspect your previous monitor utilize PWM flickering.

Isn't that strobbing feature exclusive to NVIDIA under name ULMB? You have to enable it manually anyway.

It has nothing to do with the GPU, it's all in the monitor. Some brands call it ULMB, yes, but that's just marketing. If I'm not mistake all monitors that can do above 120hz use a similar technique pretty much.

 

Edit: Wait, I got a little confused there. Yeah it's not enabled out of the box, it's a technology to limit motion blur for fast moving images. But apart from that feature the way 120hz+ panels work is that they essentially run 2 x 60hz alternated. Maybe someone more qualified can explain this better.

Windows 10 update adds something called nightlight. Dims the screen a little and makes it a warmer color.

ULMB is Nvidia only. Not sure if AMD has their version.
It was mainly used for Nvidia 3d vision, but then made standalone and was able to be used without being in 3d mode.

Windows is late to the party  That's about changing the colors to warmer/colder depending on the time and absent light. Doesn't have much to do with the screen he chooses to buy.

It wasn't to help him determine a screen, it was general advice that might further help him whilst he waits for a new screen and even then after.
Doesn't matter if Microsoft is late or not, the fact is it's there now, and that's what matters really.
Plus, you can have it on constantly. regardless of time or light.

Yes i do, i have absense epiepsy, i started playing alot less game now.

OP, I had the vg248qe which was great. 1080P 144hz. I upgraded to the pg278q which is 1440p 144hz. Both  are great monitors, though I'm not sure how much they will help with strain.

Hmmm. I'm not very experienced on the matter. I would try to find a test unit if I were you and see how you feel after like 10 minutes if use.

No really, I was mostly hating on MS for taking so long for that feature and just added the fact that he can use that without worrying about what screen he gets. Wasn't trying to say you're wrong, just adding to your comment.

ULMB inserts a black frame and simulates a crt monitor kind of, resulting in a much smoother looking picture. This can be bothersome for some people as it pulses or flicvkers the display very quickly. This is something that has to be enabled though.

Many high refresh rate monitors do. It's a technique to achieve clearer image transition on faster movements. But that could be very eye straining for some.
