No Credit or Debit? No Problem! Amazon Cash is here

Anyway this will be something I will never use. It's nice to give people options, but idk who this is really for.

I would say this is mainly for lower income or older people who do not use or rely on banking services as well as people who get paid in cash as day laborers.  According to the article, they figure that 7% of the US population is Unbanked so that would make for about 22.5 Million people without a bank account in the US.  If they can get 10% of those people to use this service and deposit on average around $50.00 into their Amazon accounts, then that would be an extra $112 million dollars.  Long term, I do wonder if Amazon will end up like a banking service and have to be regulated in a similar fashion.

Still hard to believe people that don't own a Debit or Credit card yet.

Our biggest supermarkets chains are Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsburys (smaller ones include Waitross, M&S, aldi, CO-OP, Lidi)...no bestbuy in that list :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

And what's that make a difference to this?

The only pro I see for bothering to make this a thing is security. I feel much better adding $X directly to my account to sit there waiting for me than carrying around a gift card I might lose or get stolen.

but other than that...yeah stupid. If you already have and use an Amazon account wouldn't you already have used a credit/debit card at one point? If you don't have a debit card why shop at Amazon? They make it look like they have amazing deals but usually a physical store has it for the same price (plus price match is a thing). It's only useful if you have prime savings - which requires a card.

What makes you think a gift card will get lost or stolen and your credit card or debit card won't?

Some people don't have debit cards or credit cards, while others don't like to use them at much. This is where Gift cards comes in. For Amazon, you can do is just buy a gift card with cash at a retail store. Scratch off the card to reveal the code. Go to your account, select insert gift card, type in code and there now you have money in your Amazon account where you can buy what you want.

Using a gift card has its benefits where you don't over spend and go over your limit.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I was just playing devils advocate and coming up with a reason why Amazon thinks this is needed. Actually most times I get a universal gift card I do the part I put in bold.

But the stolen debit card part - if your credit/debit card is stolen you can get a new one and legally protected from most purchases made if any. If I get a $50 gift card and it disappears, I'm out $50 dollars.
