You didn't look at the second and the third graph, did you?  The 5820K/5930K/6800K/6850K will pull ahead of both the 1700X and the 7700K when they are overclocked...

You didn't look at the second and the third graph, did you?  The 5820K/5930K/6800K/6850K will pull ahead of both the 1700X and the 7700K when they are overclocked...

Most likely it's boosting all cores to its turbo speed, which is 4ghz. It only overclocks to around 4.4 ghz, or 10% extra, max. 1700x can do all cores only at 3.4 ghz, and can OC to 4 ghz, or 18%.

Dafuq, where did you get this misinformation? Broadwell-E doesn't boost all of its cores to its Turbo frequency..... It will run within 100MHz of the base clock when all cores are in use....

Some motherboards support multi core turbo, it's very likely that this could be happening.

It says 3.7-4ghz turbo so that's not totally true. It says 3.6 because that's the speed the CPU is guaranteed to run at, most likely it'll run at at least 3.7, highly likely it is running at 4 ghz.

No.... The CPUs are running at stock, the multicore enhancement feature (I think that this is how it is called) is considered an overclock.

Not really. Some motherboards come with it enabled by default.

True, that could be possible. But the thing I have with the puget systems premier benchmarks is that it doesn't add up with their previous benchmarks. 

 

If you look at one of their previous benchmarks with premier they did:

You can see the 6900k handily beating the 6850k by 17%.

 

If we look at the new one, even if we exclude warp stabilizer benchmarks:

It's only winning by 7% in Render Previews and 10% in Export Average. Weird, right?

 

Hence why I still believe AMD is the better choice. It may only end up being 5% faster than a 6850k when both are overclocked, but it's also cheaper.

Why do you keep forgetting that I never recommended the 6850K? The 5820K is cheaper than the 1700X....

And the 1700 is cheaper than the 5820k, and overclocks just as well as the 1700x. I'm just using the 6850k cuz I can't find any benchmarks for premier with the 6800k

They perform identically.... The 6 core Intel CPU is better than Ryzen 7 for Adobe. For every other editing software, Ryzen 7 is much better.

Still disagree, Ryzen when OCed is still a few percent ahead of 6 core Intel CPUs when OCed, and even when video editing you need to do other stuff like Handbrake (potentially), in which Ryzen is vastly ahead.

The OP never said that he would use Handbrake and as you can see, the Intel CPU IS ahead when running at the same frequency (In Adobe), so idk why Ryzen would be faster when it is overclocked.....

Not sure what you're saying but...

 

At stock, 1700x is 0-1% faster than the 6850k.

 

Assuming that the 6850k is running at 3.7 ghz on all cores and can be OCed to 4.3 or 4.4 ghz max, that would be an extra 16-19% higher clock speeds.

 

I can't figure out whether or not the 1700x can boost all cores to 3.5 ghz or not. You should be able to OC it to 4 ghz, which would yield a 14-17% boost in performance. So, if we based the performance in premier purely those benchmarks, a 1700 at 4ghz (most 1700s CAN reach 4ghz) would be about on par with a 6800k at 4.3 or 4.4 ghz. 

 

If OP does warp stabilization, then I agree, a 6800k or 5820k is probably a better buy. If not, I'd say a 1700 is the better buy, since in Premier it should be on par with the 6800k while being cheaper and potentially being better in other situations that may potentially present themselves. It also has a better upgrade path in the future.

 

However, with that being said, I still find these benchmarks a bit fishy, as I said in my previous post. The performance difference in rendering and export between the 6850k and 6900k doesn't line up with previous benchmarks by Puget. 

 

So there's my honest opinion. If OP does warp stabilization, then 6800k or 5820k. If not, then Ryzen.

In the applications that the OP is using, the 6850K/6800K/5930K/5820K (They are all the same) is faster. And the OP never said that he would be using Handbrake. This is what I said....

That's photoshop and lightroom, which are irrelevant to this. OP never said that he would be using either

Considering they're also doing photoshop and lightroom, which are more single threaded, then for this computer a 6800k or 5820k could potentially be a better option. If only premier, I would still say Ryzen, but with photoshop and lightroom added to the mix Intel is probably the better option for OP.
