Video Editing PC Recommendations

Hi guys, I'm building a new workstation PC in April for heavy video editing. I plan on doing some over clocking in the CPU. I would appreciate it if you check my list and tell my if I have some better options, if I forget something, or if I have selected incompatible hardware that is not going to perform at its best. Thanks

Only thing I got to say is get an r7 1700 instead. You get 8 cores instead of 6 for cheaper so it should help a lot.

Look, Intel is better for gaming, that's for sure, but the R7-1700 will be better than the 6800K/5820K for video editing....

Absolutely not. The R7 will win in all cpu bound tasks.

You'll be better off with Ryzen, broadwell-e should be avoided, it is too overpriced for no performance justification right now, if you do want Intel worksation though you could always wait for skylake-e

Definitely not... If you do a lot of gaming, but you also do content creation. The 5820K/6800K is an amazing choice.

Ryzen is what it is and it probably won't get much better. At best it will be 5-15% slower than Intel, instead of 10-25%....

if ryzen is a good choice for my work i will buy the 1700x and overclock it a bit.. i selected the 6800k because every guy i do video editing with told me to go for intel.. they say AMD cpus are not good for video work.. i dont have experience though

Depends on the software that you use. If you want to get an Intel CPU though, don't get the 6800K as it is a very bad overclocker, get the 5820K instead, it overclocks better and it is cheaper.

i generally use premiere pro cc, after effects cc,photoshop cc and lightroom cc.. do you know anything about ryzen 1700x vs 5820k (as you recommend) on these?

A month ago they would've been right. Ryzen was only released 3 1/2 weeks ago, and before it Intel was the king, so that's probably why they think so. AMD's previous CPUs were trash for almost everything lol.

AFAIK, Adobe is very clock speed dependent.... So the 2 CPUs are on par (because the 1700 has more cores but the 5820K overclocks higher) So, it comes down to:

1. Which configuration is cheaper
2. Do you need more PCIe lanes
3. Do you need higher RAM capacity

True, but not all programs use CUDA/OpenGL/OpenCL......
