Ryzen with 1080 ti sli

Hey guys,

I'm building a gaming/workstation PC, will it be right to pair 2 1080 ti's with ryzen 7 1700x and also would 850 watts power supply would be enough or should I get 1000 watts. Will all 4x8 GB dimms over clock to 2933 MHz.

PSU is fine, just get a quality unti, EVGA G2/G3, Corsair AX/RMX, SeaSonic

If you get 3000mhz dims, they should be fine

If you're gaming at 4k (which you should be with 2x 1080ti) the difference between a 7700k and Ryzen 7 chip is minimal. And the Ryzen chip will be much more use to you outside of gaming

I highly suggest the Rm850i or Rm850x Brilliant PSUs, 7Y warranty. No fan noise. Looks good. The list goes on.

You need single rank memory, (1rx8) for the best chance of achieving higher memory clocks across 4 dimms, 16gbx2 is recommended.

Is trident z single rank?? Or will a BIOS update might fix things with running oc on all dimms

Some if not all trident Z is single rank, hard to determine sometimes, and future BIOS update are meant to improve memory but we don't know by how much.

I've seen people their PC shutting down automatically with 850 watts PSU with 1090 to sli. I'll buy 1000 watts PSU to be on safe side. The one I'm looking to get is evga 1000w g3. And thanks for the reply.

Hmm.. well thanks for the help mate. I swear it'd be so helpful to have an app for this website..

I would consider a 1000w because the 1080ti uses a lot of power, sli, adding drivers and overclocking it could get short, I seen people have difficulty to overclock the cards when using only 850w.

Fallacy that the difference between Intel and Ryzen is related to resolution, it's not. It's load on the cpu. Testing at 1080p places the load on the CPU, so does 2 1080ti at any resolution, other than something like 8k.

So you're going to hit a bottleneck, well with 2 1080ti you will with any CPU curently avalible. Just that with the R7 that bottleneck will be worse in gaming.

But, you're not just gaming, so the R7 is the better choice.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
