So I have occasinally experienced some random frame drops while I play GTA V, but nothing I would find too distracting. I have a system originally built for budget after all. However, this day I experienced some drops that were just too aggravating to ignore, so I ran a test and noticed my CPU is reaching 100% several times while I play. I figure it might be a bottleneck of some sort, but I am not sure which. I suspect it might be my motherboard, but I'm not yet experienced enough to make a diagnosis.

My current rig has:

i5-6600K at stock speed (there was a sale that included a TX3i, so I swapped out my i5-6400 for added speed and a silent, better-looking cooler, overclock wasn't considered)

MSI B150 PC Mate (again, original rig was built on a budget)

EVGA GTX 1070 FTW (upgrade from a 960 by Gainward)

Anyone have any suggestions for a solution?

This is a CPU bottleneck as motherboards do not effect performance.

A swap to a 7700/6700/7700k/6700k could help

Yeah that's not happening anytime soon. I have already paid a decent amount for one CPU and then more for the upgrade. Not really swimming in money to make another CPU upgrade. Besides, I didn't have as much issue before, with the 6400 and 960, but that might be for other reasons (such as little attention or lower settings or whatever)

Is your turbo Boost is ON?
Check your Power Option Make sure its on Performance mod as Balanced mod max power set to 99 which disables turbo boost of a CPU.

Can you describe exactly what kind of "aggravating frame drops" you're getting?

It's time to crank up the DSR and AA to increase the load on that GPU of yours a bit more...
