RX 480

you should see pretty huge gains for , well everything. You are going from a dual core i3 to a quad core i7. Most modern games can utilize up to 4 cores and suffer if it doesn't have 4 physical cores. Multi tasking would also benefit

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

It depends on what games you're playing. Multi threaded games like battlefield 1 will see huge performance gains while single threaded games won't see much improvement.  A GTX 1070/1080 would be a good upgrade for that CPU, however you might find the performance boost you get from the CPU upgrade to be enough for a little while yet.

Don't use SLI.  It's a nice option if you've got one card and someone gives you another one super cheap, but plenty of times you'll find yourself having to run games on a single card to eliminate all issues.  A single nicer card is always better than two weaker cards.

Yes, but doesn't mean it's worth it. Sell your 1070 and upgrade to 1080/Ti instead :))

He has a 770, not a 1070.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

I was meaning if he had a 1070 and wanted more power, not that he does atm lmao

depends on which game. can't tell how much fps will you get as each game utilizes cpu differently

Personally, I have used SLI with GTX 980's. The gain was not worth it but the cool factor was. I'll put it to you this way. Don't cheap out by buying 2 cards. As an example. Why would you spend $900 on two 1070's when a 1080Ti probably kicks it into the ground? 1 power card is always better than 2 cards. Why? Micro-stuttering is a bitch and not every game utilizes SLI completely. Even if they do, you can still get issues.

ANY i7 will support SLI just fine. It's up to you if you want to spend the money towards a good $200+ motherboard in order to achieve that PLUS the cost of 2 cards which, at that point, you could of saved money towards one powerful card, the 1080Ti, and be done with it for the next 3 years or so.

Catch my drift?

Google i7 4790 reviews and look at gaming benchmarks in those reviews.

Surely some of the results would be put against the i5 and i3's.

Here is a decent comparison IMO

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1199?vs=1197

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

But didn't you already know the answer to the question about the i7 being able to SLI since you knew it came down to the motherboard? Hell if the motherboard supports it, a Pentium could do SLI. I would never buy a 1070 and SLI later. If that's what you're planning, go with a single 1080 or single 1070 and just wait to do SLI once Nvidia releases the new generation.

i meant without bottleneck and a 1080 costs alot in my country so the 1070 is a much nicer alternative

Which I understand. But, if you're planning to SLI, why not save money in the long run by saving up for one 1080? Not to mention, your thermals and your electric bill will be lower too haha.

The few situations I would probably go with a gpu setup would be as follows.

1) The single strongest GPU cannot accomplish what I want.

2) I'm already running a multi setup for some compute application that uses them, so why not SLI/Crossfire for gaming.

3) The card(s) can be had for an extraordinarily good deal.

4) My wallet is just too heavy, and I want the cool factor of RGB Quad GPUs (even though I can never use them all at once).
