Hello,

I am fairly new to upgrading my PC and would like some advice on the parts that I need. I wanting to use my computer for gaming and video editing. After downloading a game (For Honor) and trying to play it, my computer told me that a few parts of my computer was either out of date and I didn't have enough ram.

Right now I have a stock Dell Precision T3500.

The program I used was the system requirements lab website which said that to play a game (games pretty much from this year) I had to upgrade my video crad, CPU, and ram.

Right now I have:

Video card:  NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700

CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU W3530 @ 2.80GHz

Ram: 6GB

I want to upgrade to:

Video card: MSI GAMING Radeon RX 480 GDDR5 4GB CrossFire VR Ready FinFET DirectX 12 Graphics Card (RX 480 GAMING X 4G)

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K SkyLake 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 Boxed Processor

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z170 Platform Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-8GVRB

Motherboard: ASUS LGA1151 DDR4 DisplayPort HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 H170 ATX Motherboards H170 PRO GAMING

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think I might need a more up to date mother board because of the newer processor. Right now my mother board is a Dell Inc model 09KPNV. I have read a few forums about compatibility and I think that this set up is compatible. I am building so that the computer will be somewhat future proof and NOT for overclocking. Will this setup work or do I need to consider some other parts of it?

Thank you.

go for a non k sku for your processor if u dont plan on overclocking especally since that board dosent support overclocking

Current Rig=  AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, Asus Crosshair Hero VIII, EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 ultra, 32gb Corsair Vengence Pro RGB 3000hz White, EVGA 750 P2 PSU, 1TB Samsung 980 Pro, 500gb samsung 860 evo, 250GB Samsung 850 evo, 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus, 2TB seagate firecuda sshd,  LianLi PC 011 Dynamic XL ROG edition, Corsair h150i elite capelix

Yes, you'll want a new motherboard.

Although if you do not want to overclock, you might want to get the 6700 instead of the 6700k, it will save a few bucks. Also, consider going with the new 7-series, might last a year longer.

Another thing to consider is if you want to 'future proof' getting an overclockable chip can sometimes add years onto your lifespan of the computer.

Don't get that motherboard, you need a Z170 or Z270 motherboard with that CPU to OC

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Is no one here going to recommend Ryzen for him? He's doing both gaming and video editing. Both of which, are a perfect combination for a Ryzen R7 1700.

Here's my thinking. If you are TRULY going to be using programs like Adobe Premiere and gaming, I would recommend considering the Ryzen R7 1700 because it will process video WAY quicker than the i7. However, if you are rarely going to be doing video editing and you're not sure of sticking with it (not sure what your plans are if you're doing youtube or not) then get the i7.

Performance wise, the R7 performs close to the i7 and if you aren't running a 144hz monitor and your monitor is 60hz, then either choice is completely fine. Also, I'd recommend the GTX 1060 6GB over the RX480 but that's just my own little personal opinion.

But seriously. Consider Ryzen if you will stick with video editing. Seriously.

Oh and to add to it, you mentioned TWITCH STREAMING. That to me, tells me that you should definitely go with Ryzen.

Yeah, I would probably go with the 7700 if I had to pick between the two, due to the HT. Ryzen is also a good option, as for which one, I have not done any research, but it sounds like @Brehohn could help you out with that.

For now I am just starting out with video editing and streaming and I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with it. But I will be do streaming so Ill go with then Ryzen.

Right now my build looks like:

CPU: AMD YD1700BBAEBOX Ryzen 7 1700 Processor with Wraith Spire LED Cooler

Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel Z170 Platform Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-8GVRB

I was thinking about doing the 7700 as well, but ya @Brehohn recommended the Ryzen

If you overclock the R7 1700, you can get near the same gaming performance or better than the 1800X. Just have to have a good cooler. For streaming though, spending $170 more for the 1800X just doesn't make sense.

go for R7 1700 or 1700x

8 cores of futureproofness
