I just upgraded my CPU from a i3 2100 to an i5 3470 and now my Pc won't boot. It just powers on and stays like that. It dosent output to any displays on either my igpu or dgpu. It doesn't even power my keyboard. Is this a dead Cpu or have I broken my motherbord as it was working fine before.

All of the fans power up and the hard drive light stayes on for about 13 seconds before turning off.

Edit: My motherbord is a Biostar H61MLV3 v8.0

If you have a 6 series chipset, you need to update the BIOS to support Ivy Lake processors if you haven't already.

If plugging in the Sandy Bridge processor allows the system to run just fine, either the motherboard actually does not have Ivy Bridge compatibility, or the Ivy Bridge processor is bunk.

The motherbord does support Ivy Bridge as is is listed in the supported cpu section on biostars website. http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=724#download

Will reinstall the Sandy Bridge CPU tomorrow to validate it is the CPU.

Good job the comany I brought it off ofers a 30 day warranty.

Yes, I'd say it's most likely the CPU at this point if the BIOS was upgraded and CMOS was reset and everything. Will know after you plug the i3 back in hopefully... you didn't change anything else in the system while you were upgrading the CPU did you?
